Learning to eat mindfully can be a joyful experience. I used to eat mindlessly and just told myself that I was just so busy with my important life that I didn't have time to prepare food. That was just a lie that I told myself to avoid going to the work of taking care of myself. Now I look forward to finding new ways to put healthy foods together, experience new flavors, seek like-minded friends and enjoy my foods in ways I never did when dinner was Doritos and lime sherbet.
If you find yourself unable to do this, find professional help and support groups to help you. You are worth it.0 -
Honey please get yourself some help. That is not being rude, that is being honest. I have seen this before. You are worth it, so take the steps you need to get yourself healthy mentally as well. Good luck sweetie :flowerforyou:0

as someone else here who is recovering from an eating disorder, yes, i do understand how it is to hate eating but as brought up here by others, that isn't a good outlook for recovery. Figure out what you can eat and take it one meal at a time. Keep up with your professional help. But focusing on these feelings won't help you in the end.0

I used to hate eating, and when I'm super stressed out I hate having to remember food, I actually have several alarms on my phone to remind me to eat every day.
One thing that I found is after spending the last 10 years of my life hating food and treating food like the enemy, because all I have to do is look at a calorie and it morphs into my *kitten*, is that I enjoy eating alot more when its food that I make myself. At my job, the woman I take care of watches alot of food network, so when I see something on there that looks delicious I text myself a reminder to look it up later and then I go through the recipe and think how can I make this healthier and try to make it.
Try looking up some recipes and just have fun cooking, food tastes alot better when you know whats in it.
And speaking from experience, if you're trying to lose weight you shouldnt try to exercise alot until you can happily eat every day. You will most likely make yourself very very sick or pass out.
If you cant get to where you are eating regularly in the next few weeks I would seek professional help.0 -
It's not hard for me and I do like eating but only what i make myself. It's stopping that is the problem. I can't eat out, I don't trust them. Who knows how many calories are in some of these foods, even the "light" stuff.
I have no idea how to get past it.0 -
Don't obsess about every little thing in your food. You know what healthy food is. Make those healthy choices. Stay within your MFP calorie range. Get some exercise everyday. Drink your water. And it'll work itself out. Good Luck.0

If you're still in a mindset where you hate eating, you really shouldn't be on mfp and trying to lose weight. I struggled with an ed as well and also gained a lot of weight in recovery and got up to a few pounds more than my pre-eating disorder weight from my metabolism being so slow. However, I waited until I was in a better mindset about food and weight before starting my journey of getting healthier(which does involve losing a few pounds for me). I only want to lose a bit of weight to fit into my pre-ED jeans because they're a little too snug right now and Fall is coming up.
I suggest you wait to use mfp until you're in a better place as well. You shouldn't be tracking your calories/trying to lose weight if your mindset is still very disordered.0 -

This. I think it's good that you recognize it and are speaking out and in your own way reaching out for help.
On another note I do have days that I hate the fact the I have to feed my body! just as much as i sometimes hate having to void...yes TMI but the point is coming...it's the frequent things my body needs that annoy me. that's because when I get busy I don't like to be interrupted. However like the quote above: HAVE is the key word, Force is another keyword...I know i have to eat to keep my body functioning normally so i force myself to eat. So it's not the food that I hate, but the time it takes to make it and eat it.
Plan your meals and commit to it,but start slow so you don't give up...with time you will be able to realize that you can take in 1600+ calories, depending on your activity and still achieve your goal. I think that it may actually be good for you to log during this transitional time. I say this because when I get busy and I don't track that's when I notice underfeeding symptoms of fatigue, irritation, blood sugar instability, etc....so then I track what I eat and realize I am below 1400 calories and I aim for above 1600-1700 sometimes even higher. So tracking will help you be realistic about how much you're actually eating vs. convincing yourself that you've eaten plenty...but SET LIMITS.
Best of luck. oh and i am 5 "2" and currently slightly below your goal weight...there people on here smaller in height and size than I that still eat like 1900-2000 calories and lose weight so I know YOU CAN DO IT!0 -
It will pass! I HATED eating when I first started on MFP and it was frustrating and stressful. How I got over it was to change how I thought about it. I was saying that I could ONLY eat the calories that I had. Instead, I changed it to more of an incentive to work out. "If I go on this walk I will be able to reward myself with Ben and Jerry's!" It was all mental for me, and I know it's not easy, and it will take some time, but you CAN change your way of thinking about this! YOU CAN DO IT!! Feel free to add/message me if you need some help or just someone to vent to!

Seriously? This girl comes to US looking for ideas to help her change this way of thinking and all you can say is seek professional help? Not everyone can afford to pay for a nutritionist and such to help with these things. Hell, I know I can't!0

Does anyone else find eating to be a chore? It causes a bunch of stress! I cant enjoy anything because I'm obsessing over what's in it. How do I get over this mentality?
I assume that if you're on anti-depressants than you're already seeing a doc.
If you're logging calories, then I think you're supposed to obsess over what's in your food... but just a little bit. If you feel like you're not enjoying it, then maybe you can focus on the macro nutrients (Fat, Carbs and Protein... maybe fiber and sodium). So when you reach for something to eat, you can kind of take an educated guess on what you need to hit your targets.
It also helps if you're stocking the fridge with good stuff. I remember how hard it was when I was living at home with my parents. There was always a dessert in the fridge next to my fruit.0
