I am new to this website, I discovered it this past monday, and absolutely love it!! I am just scared that after I have already told everyone that I am going to lose weight, and exercise, that I am going to fail and that their "yeah, right, we've heard that before" faces will be true. My biggest chanllenge is going to be choosing the right foods to eat when I am out at a restaurant, or when my work brings food in for all the employees. Let's face it I didn't get to be a size 18 almost 20 by picking the "healthy" foods. I have also made the decision that I WILL NOT tell myself that I can not have something, if I want McDonalds because I know I am going to crave it, then I am just going to have it, but not eat it like before maybe just one thing, and I will count it on my calories. What I want to know is, what did you guys do at the beginning of your new journey to keep yourself on track, and choosing the right foods? Also, I want to take pictures of myself and track on progress on my profile with those "before" and "after" pictures. What do you guys think, is it a good way to stay motivated?

If you choose to respond back, then thank you so much for your advise.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO A NEW US!!!!!!

  • Hi!

I too just found this website and am very excited about it! I have had some of the same challenges you have. Six years ago, I was also a size 18 almost 20. I followed a healthy eating plan and increased my exercise; I successfully lost 50 pounds and have managed to keep off 40 of it. I am now ready to lose the 10 I gained back plus another 25 or 30. That will put me in the BMI healthy zone for the first time in three decades!

Mostly, I just wanted you to know that it can be done. While I have not lost all the weight I want to, I am in a 14 and not an almost 20. That is success! You can do it too!
  • Welcome to the site, and good luck with your goals! I found the most useful thing to do when starting out was the plan my whole day of meals in advance, and track them inmy food diary to make sure I stayed within my calorie limits. If I knew I wanted to make a run to Starbucks, or in your case, McDonalds, I would try really hard to make sure I could fit it within my calories.

    Good luck!

My suggestion: Make sure you log ALL your calories, DRINK that 64 ounces of WATER each and everyday and get in at least a half an hour of huffin and puffin exercise (when your heavy breathing then you know the heart rate is up and in the burn zone) at LEAST 6 days out of the week! I just completed 305 days out of the 365 and I am almost 51 yrs old, if I can do this so can YOU!!! Find a group on here and just join in, when you post everyday it WILL keep you accountable and you will keep strong through others!! I wish you success in 2010!!!

well first congrats on taking the first step - definitally charting all of your calories - if it hits your lips write (log) it. also I was a size 18 when i started and now can wear a 14-16 depending on the brand. You can do it is just takes effort. As far as picking food - when we have had food in for employees at work i pick somthing healthy - or just something small then chart it. if you are craving mcdonalds instead of getting a bigmac get a hamburger without the mayo but with the veggies. good luck

Good for you!!! Don't let other's make you feel like you can't do this. I too went through many years of telling myself that I was going to lose weight, and then I would have a bad day, and I would give up. Then my parents were diagnosed with diabetes. I did not want this to happen to me. I also got tired of breathing hard just to tie my shoes. I started at 227 pounds/ size 18/20. I started slow with my exercise I went roller skating 2 times a week for 1.5 -2 hours each time. I was so surprised that I could lose weight doing this. Then I joined a gym. I love going to the gym. I go about 5 days a week for about an hour to an hour and 20 mins. I have gone down to 190 pounds, and I am in a size 14. I think my best advice would be not to give up if you fall off the wagon. Also, don't give up things you like. Just don't have them as often. When I know I am going to go out to a nice dinner, I make sure that I hit the gym first, and have a really good workout.

    Hi
I am in the same situation as you are but I am almost into a size 22 and weigh 248. I have never weighed this much in my life. I also love McDonalds but I know I eat there because I haven 't planned my day of eating. It is so easy to swing the car right into the drive way. I am making a plan to put my purse in my trunk when I go to work and when I come home from work. I hope to plan my food for the whole week so I don't feel so starving at the end and beginning of the day. I hear you....SIZE 10 in 2010!
  • You have come to the right place!!!! This site is wonderful. I to was a size 18 3 months ago and now I am almost in a 14. It is a tough journey. If you count everything that goes in and chart it you will make it. Everyone here is wonderful and supportive. If you feel down come here and get support. If you have a small goal you accomplished come here and you will get support. Good luck on your journey and for making the right choice. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!
  • P.S I put a picture on my fridge of what I use to look like and I look at it everyday and say "I WILL LOOK LIKE THAT AGAIN"!!!!!!
