Play It Safe/Just Do It??

Okay... I'll be honest. I've eaten pretty much crap for the past few weeks. I mean, I haven't been eating ice cream and pizza every night (well... some nights, but I have done it in moderation). But in the past 5 hours, I've had spaghetti, fudge/brownie ice cream, and a red apple.
My stomach is hurting like crazy right now. I feel bloated and such.

But now here is the (semi) troubling situation. Lately, my fiber intake has been low, and so I picked up some fiber chewables. These things taste great and have 4 grams of fiber. I'm suppossed to take one in the morning, and one at night. I tried one today around 3 pm (I didn't get them until this afternoon). On the bottle, it says discontinue use if you feel extremely bloated and gassy.
I've got both of those symptoms... but now I'm not sure if it's from the fiber chewables, or the food I have eaten. I do really love these fiber pills, and I'd be disappointed if I had to stop taking them, but I am so gassy and bloated, I won't be able to handle it.

Should I take the other fiber chewable tonight, and pray that it's my food, or should I play it safe and hope I don't have some weird intolerance/allergy to them?

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you're bloated and gassy, skip the fiber pill tonight. Give it another go tomorrow evening if your discomfort has subsided. No point adding fuel to the fire, or you may be in for a long, uncomfortable night.

When you add fiber to your diet, gas and bloating are very common, but should subside after your body adapts.
  • I agree. The food you ate will definitely contribute to the way you're feeling (I know from first hand junk food eating experience!) So take a day off from the fiber pills, maybe try eating better tomorrow and then retry the pills the following day. And don't beat yourself up too much about eating junk food. Dieting is hard (I'm just starting) and everyone needs comfort food, but always remember in moderation. Good luck!

Those fiber supplements can cause you problems even if you are eating right and already have lots of fiber in your diet. I wanted to up my consumption so I tried them, and yikes!! I had such unpleasant symptoms I had to take time off work. Even though your diet hasn't been perfect, I am betting THEY are the problem.

For what its worth, if you want some added fiber, I have had good luck with the Kellogs Fiber Plus Bars. They have less sodium than FiberOnes, and cost less in my store than the FiberOnes. I have had no problems when taking them. Good luck.

Right now, I can't really eat fiber bars. Most of them have High Fructose Corn Syrup, which my doctor is not allowing me to eat because of my PCOS.
