I will be doing a mini triathlon (250y swim, 6.2 mile bike, 2 mile run) for the first time in my life 2 weeks from Sunday. When I started exercising a couple of months ago my goal was just to be able to finish, but I am in better shape now than I ever thought I would be. Now my wife and I have made a bet with another couple who are friends of ours . So now my goal is to crush them and not let my wife beat me. Any words of wisdom for me would be helpful since I don't know what to expect since I have never done anything like this before. Any advice on how to train these next 2 weeks, what to eat the day before and morning of, or what to do once the race starts would greatly be appreciated.

Does anybody have any advice?0

At this point, you're probably not going to make any monumental strides in the swim, bike, or run, so I'd focus on transition. Practice it a few times and get so you are comfortable with it and know how you want your gear laid out. You can easily save a minute by being efficient in transition over someone who doesn't know what they are doing.0

Bricks ( a bike ride followed immediately by a run)0

Practice transitions...it's the 4th discipline and always overlooked.0

If it's an open water swim make sure to do a swim or 2 in open waters. It's a lot different than a pool.
Bricks and transition practices are excellent ideas. Also if you are wearing a wetsuit practice taking it off and use a lubricant on your skin like body glide to help slip it off.0 -
I start with coffee in the morning to make sure that all bathroom breaks are out of the way... get up even earlier than you think you need to...
Then I eat a whole wheat bagel plain. Then right before the race 3 shotblocks out the other 3 in your bike shoe and eat on the bike half way through.
Most important is have fun... winning a bet is a great motivator but triathlon is a challenge and fun! and also addicting good luck!!0 -
awesome , lot of great advice already given , so have fun and good luck beating your friends....

Might wanna get a few open water swims in with your wife and friends. There's gonna be some bumping and jostling at the swim take off, and it can be a little scary, but just expect it and swim your swim. Relax, and HAVE FUN!!0

Transition practice is key! I think I could have watched a sitcom in my first T1 I was so slow. It's a short race so be comfortable being uncomfortable and remember, if it was easy everyone would do it.0

Well I thought I do a little better. I finished in 1 hour 0 minutes 6.0 seconds. I thought I would end up under an hour, but the good news is I beat my wife by 1 minute 3.3 seconds (but who is keeping track). She is upset because she was 2 minutes slower than normal on the swim. All I can say is too bad better luck next year. We also won our bet with our friends by 1 minute 19 seconds. I finished 2nd out of the four I got beat by 14 seconds. I never imagined the 4 of us would be so close.0
