30DS makes me sick?!

I will be the very first to admit I am NOT in shape (hence why I am here haha ) and have attempted Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred twice with really poor results. The first time I attempted it was in January or February and only made it two days in. On day two I was SO SORE (which I had read about happening after the fact) but I swear every time I worked out I felt super nauseous afterwards. When I attempted this, I couldn't even do 10 mins on the elliptical so I thought ok, maybe I'm just in over my head. I'll wait until I'm a little more in shape and try again.
In May (maybe it was June I'm not sure) I attempted 30DS again. Well, I only completed day one this time. About 15 mins after completing the workout the nausea turned into full on vomiting and after feeling like crap the rest of the day I was less than excited for day two, so I never did it. When I attempted this cycle I was in FAR better shape than the first (I was now doing 30-40 mins on the elliptical with added resistance) so I really thought it would go better than it did.
I'm curious to know if anyone else has had similar experiences, or if I'm just a weirdo. I'd really love to do the workout because everyone says it gets great results but I'm not going to lie I'm a bit apprehensive after what happened the last two times, and I'm still not in that great of shape =/ I see people who say they are total beginners do this but is it maybe not a beginners workout?

Wish I had some advice, but I dunno...do you suppose it might be motion sickness from all the jumping? There's always Dramamine for that. I know when I attempted it, I always got light headed getting up from the chest flies or whatever they're called....0

When during the day were you doing it, and had you eaten before hand (and if so what, and how long before)0

Are you drinking enough water or eating enough?
If I don't drink alot of water during the day, I'll get really dizzy when I try to do the 30DS.
Now, I don't drink the 8cups blah blah blah (I get headaches and would float away), but I definitely up my water intake.0 -
Have you watched the biggest loser? lol. Jillian makes all her competitors Vomit after a great work out. If you don't think it's because you are out of shape and maybe too strenuous of an exercise.. I would consult your Physician to be safe
Good Luck!0 -
Sometimes after I do a strenuous workout, I notice I start to get a little upset stomach and light headed. The one thing I do after each workout, is drink a protein shake. Everytime I drink a shake after working out, I don't feel like I want to puke. I also notice that if I eat something healthy, not too heavy, at least an hour before my workout, I don't feel sick afterwards either. It all depends on the workout for me. I can do Zumba and just drink a ton of water when I'm done, but after any Jillian Michaels or Insanity workout I have to have my shake.0

The first round I tried it at night because it was more convenient at the time, the second was in the morning after breakfast (about an hour or so). I don't normally get motion sick but I suppose anything is possible. I try and drink a lot of water but I'm not sure I always get in my "8 glasses" a day. Most days I'd say I do or get close at least.0

I tried it out...wasn't for me... but I know what you mean.. I got real nauseous after too. I got through it.. but ya felt like up-chucking afterwards.. oh well.. found out I like cardio better! lol0

I was an absolute beginner when I started it, I just finished it today. I can only assume that maybe you didn't leave it long enough after eating before working out or similarly were you working out on an empty stomach? *which lots of people can do but I have low blood sugar so I need a little something first* Just push through, you improve quickly if you stick with it.0

I've tried it twice and everytime I get to day 3 I feel sick for hours afterwards. Stops me eating because I'm going to be sick. I've been avoiding it ever since. I prefer to slightly lower intensity work outs over longer periods.0

This for sure...and if that doesn't help, maybe you should check with your doctor. I'm on Level2, Day 2, and it is HARD...but I can do it...and I am pretty out of shape...hence 30 DS, lol......but I haven't experienced anything except a great exhilarating exhaustion so far...0 -
Thanks for all your input! I'll try a few of the suggestions here and if it goes poorly again I'll either see the doctor or figure out something else to try I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with these issues though!0

The only time I feel nauseous is if I have not eaten enough calories the day before. I normally workout without eating anything first thing in the morning and get something afterwards. But if I am down close to 1,200 cals the day before, then I'm running on fumes the next morning and have a difficult time.0

I've just completed 30DS and am on day 3 of Ripped in 30.
I feel sick & dizzy unless I've eaten something light about an hour before.
Good luck with it, it'd be a shame if you can't complete it :flowerforyou:0 -
First you want to make sure that you have plenty of water so you do not get Dyhrdated. I notice when doing the 30 DS I got nauseous and sick if I did it first thing in the morning cause I was hungry and had not had lots of water. In the afternoon after work before dinner I did not have that problem. Also the up and down motion sometimes would get me dizzy, so I might not have hopped up as fast as she said to. Just start out doing half the work out until you work your may up. This is not a race just a lifestyle change!0

Another thing to think about is your breathing. Sometimes when doing strenuous workouts we have a tendency to hold our breath unless we think about it. This can lead to nausea.0

You don't happen to have vertigo do you? I do, and find that any exercise that involves lying flat will bring on the nausea, dizziness & vomiting. For the ab part of 30ds I just do similar exercises in a standing position (obviously not getting the full benefit of what they're doing).
I figure that modifying a small bit of the workout is better than giving up completely!0 -
Try it in the AM before you eat. I eat a small peach before working out, just to stave off hunger pangs, but anything more than that is gonna come up afterwards. Also, like another poster said, I make a protein shake immediately after and gobble that bad boy up. If not, I'm gonna feel super queezy for a while.
If you have to work out at night, try to avoid eating anything heavy for a few hours before you do it. And like a bunch have other posters have said, stay hydrated.
Also, remember, 30DS is not the end all be all of exercise. I like it because it's convenient, but there are countless other ways to get in shape. I'd say give it one more go, and if you still feel like poo afterwards, just don't do it again and find something else.0 -
Maybe you should stop complaining and just do it0

Really? I've never heard of this before!0
