I work at a McDonalds... and it's fairly busy. My hours are normally 6-8 hours long with one half hour lunch break. Should I count the hours I work as exercise?

i would say no. I'm on my feet all day long, and its one of the questions you first answer when you become a new MFP member. The site already calculates that into your daily food allowance calories!
Exercise to me is anything different from work, housework and normal daily tasks! Its when you get out and do something!

No, but you should choose an appropriate level of activity in your fitness profile. It has guidelines such as "desk job", "retail", "nurse", etc. From what I remember of working at a fast food place back in high school, I'd call it either lightly active (if you're on the register, mostly standing around), or fairly active (if you're in the kitchen, pretty much constantly walking).

Obienio is correct. You should set you base activity level to moderate or active, but not count the calories as extra. Extra calories are for over and above exercise you do, not day to day stuff.

    No.
  • Thanks guys. I work at a register most of the time, so I should keep it at lightly active.

I wish we could, but can't. As a janitor, who walks all day, the time I work isn't counted as anything.

do not eat the food! ... when they give you a free meal for doing a good job say no thank you! .. when they offer you a scratch ticket for a free food item dont take it! ... i gained 100 pounds working at mcdonalds .... i wish i never took that job!
  • I worked at a movie theater and I gained 30 pounds in four months... and then when I went off to college, I gained forty. Oh, how I wish I could be just "a little overweight" instead of just a lot of obese.
  • NO... i really wish people would stop trying to count their work as exercise!! how long have u been working!?!? has that done anything for u so far?? if u don't change anything, you are not going to lose weight.
  • It was a question. I was just not sure what other people were doing. I needed a second opinion.

Did you enjoy your little fit?
Obviously if she was asking, she wanted to make sure as to not make mistakes. That's what these forums are for.

For the love of everything holy, no. No No No. If you want to change your activity level up a notch, feel free. But do not count 8 hours of work as exercise.
