Successful weight loss without 8 glasses of water???

I have a hard time getting in all the recommended water. Certain times during the day, due to my acid reflux, it can actually give me heartburn! I try to add Mio or Crystal Light to it, but that's generally worse. I do try to get a bottle or two in each day, but that's about it. However, I do drink other liquids such as coffee, iced tea or diet soda. I'm hoping that even though I have trouble getting in 8 glasses a day that I'll still be successful in my weight loss journey. What do you think?

I actually dont know any successful plans without water. Its so important to the process. I have a very difficult time as well but when i get all my water in. WOW do i see a difference. My weight goes down, my stomach is not as big and bloated, my skin looks clear and tight. And even with all of that benefit i still struggle to get it done but its so worth it. I say keep working at it, you will be happy that you did.0

I lost 80 pounds and don't drink a whole lot of water. I drink coffee and maybe a bottle of water and sometimes a glass of iced tea. So it can be done. I just can't drink it plain. I add a little crystal light and still have a hard time getting it down.0

I have a hard time drinking water. It makes me sick to my stomach. I drink a cup of tea every morning, plus a diet soda or two.
I've lost 37 pounds so far.0 -
When I started trying to drink more, I made weak, black tea. It's enough flavor to get over the plain water hurdle. This year we have a frig with an icemaker, and I'm finding it very easy to drink cool water. I have 1-2 glasses of protein drink that I count, and 1 coffee in the morning. Don't drink juice anymore, too carbolicious. At work I still brew weak tea, drinking it after it cools off some. It all counts in my book.0

I lost most of my weight drinking Diet Coke and Coffee. I hardly ever drink water. Not saying that's a good idea, but...0

I never track my water accurately.
I eat tons of water melon and sugar free jello. I pee about a thousand times a day.0 -
You don't have to drink plain water at all, drinking tea/coffee/diet fizzy drinks/juice/squash can be substituted for plain water.0
-
I also never drink 8 glasses a day, just not a fan.
My husband has the heartburn/acid reflux problem. He just read and started eating a red apple every evening. Seems to help, he has been eating it for about two weeks now.0 -
I have a hard time with the water intake as well. Some days I get disciplined and do well and others very minimal. I do make an effort to guzzel down 12-16 ounces after a workout though and a 6 ounces or so before.
Although I have had many ups and downs I have lost a total of 34 lbs in about 7 months so as long as I make an effort I dont worry too much about it. although I realize the benefits.0 -
I never touched water back before I started... actually hated water like the plague. but as I changed my lifestyle and started adding it in a little bit at a time it got easier and easier.... Today I drink no less than 150 oz. a day and don't even blink an eye at doing that... Just work on it, get a bottle and mark it and drink a little more each week.. I can't imagine you would not be able to work yourself up to drinking more.... Best of Luck...0

I used to hate water but now I have to buy so much it's making me cut back on other stuff (I know there is brita and other products and blah blah and it's bad to use all the bottles but whatever, I buy 'em). I don't know - I just got used to it. And my husband and my kid drink it too - my kid is only allowed any other kind of drink like milk or juice if she drinks a bottle of water.
I think it is because I noticed a huge difference when I drink water in my weight loss. Whether it was my attitude (I drank more because I was trying to be healthy therefore more mindful and ate less) or that water helped.0 -
I hate water....makes me gag silly I know, but then I discovered MIO and now I drink one cup of coffee a day then nothing but water I pee like crazy and it seems the more I drink then thirstier I get! I haven't noticed a big weight lost difference but I'm still drinking it.0

I'm sure lots of people lose weight without drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day. I drink water and lots of it, but I like it so it's no much of a chore. Coffee and tea count towards your water, but unless they are plain they can add another problem. You just do the best you can and try to eliminate the diet soda and replace it with coffee tea or water. Good luck!0

I try to get in at least 100oz I'm supposed to push 150oz. I've noticed the weeks where I consistently drink water the weight falls off. I can't quite explain it. Doesn't work for the week I drink tea or diet soda. Maybe decafe would work mixed in with mostly water IDK. So far it seems to be critical. Im not a water drinker either. Mio and lemons are my life saver.0

maybe try carbonated water mix w/ mio or your diet soda isnt bad0

Mint or chamomile tea is good for sensitive tummies. I drink more green tea (plain) than I do water...0

Its a rare day that I get in 8 glasses of water. I usually drink when I am thirsty unless I am working out...then I drink more to keep hydrated. I am not having any trouble losing weight.0

This sounds just like my husband. He can drink filtered water and Crystal light that is NOT red without those side affects. I would suggest playing around with different flavors and also trying filtering your water.0 -

Water, juice, milk, soup broth, green or herbal or decaf tea (hot or iced)...I personally count all those. I do not count coffee since I know how it effects me personally even though I drink some every day, but a lot of people do. Can't comment on diet soda as I don't drink any (allergic to nutrasweet...aka aspartame), but I do not count regular soda when I do drink some.0 -
I used to hate drinking water, too. But over time, I've gotten used to it. I think drinking ice water tastes better, weird, I know. I'm pretty sure that if you are drinking coffee, tea and soda that you are staying hydrated. I am a big coffee and tea drinker myself. I also have acid reflux. I can't believe soda doesn't bother you! If mine is acting up, soda kills me. The carbonation is awful! But water will also bother me if it is being active. Just have to sip it, then. If it frequently bothers you, you should talk to your doctor about taking a preventative like Prilosec or Prevacid. I've used them in the past and they help tremendously. My husband's is worse and he has been on them for a while. I can always tell when he gets lazy and stops taking them - every thing he eats sets it off. I've managed to keep mine under control. It also seems better with weight loss. I tend to gain in the middle these days! I used to drink a lot of diet soda. But it is so unhealthy! I've really cut back. I would stick to the coffee and tea and try a little water here and there. Try putting a lemon, lime or orange in your water for flavor!0

there are too many theories by everyone in the scientific community to be able to go by any one of them. make sure you're not drinking too little. crystal light upsets my stomach too. and I don't have acid reflux. I count everything liquid as water intake. You need to find a way to be your own judge. : )0

try decaffeinated tea, as the caffeinated kind is acts as a diuretic.0
-
I drink a gallon a day, :drinker: :drinker: I never record it because I forget. Have you tried eating ice? :drinker: :drinker:0
-
I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning, then it's nothing but water. I do about 1800 ml a day, more when working out. I just don't bring soda into the house. I'll get a diet coke maybe once a week.0

I never drank water before trying to lose this weight. I think it helps a lot. I try to drink 2 glasses when I first wake up then 2 with lunch, 2 with dinner and 2 before going to bed. It helps me eat less too, drinking the water makes me fuller so I don't eat as much. Any doctor will tell you that you need to drink at least 8 glasses a day.
Good Luck!!0 -
At first I thought this post was a joke....
With that said, if I don't drink at least 8-10 glasses of water, I gain weight. Plain & simple!!! No matter how much I exercise and diet, if I don't drink a lot of water all the other hard work is in vain. I too use to HATE water, but the more I drank, the more bareable it became. I know a lot of people have posted that they have been able to lose weight without it, but just try to remember how much better water is for your body.
If acid reflex is the main reason, try some prilosec. It works miracles! Good luck to you.0 -

For the reflux, try to limit your caffeine to before noon or whatever your halfway point in the day is. Caffeine can make reflux worse, and especially if you have it late enough in the day to cause reflux at night. I feel ya on the refluxing water thing. But, if you are drinking it after coffee or on a full stomach, then its more due to the weakening of the muscle keeping your stomach contents where they belong being loosened/weakened. If you don't have any actual physical damage to that muscle or the diaphragm, losing weight and making some changes to diet and learning your triggers will definitely help!
I had reflux for 12 years, caused by two diagnosed hiatal hernias that did damage the muscles and was starting to cause issues with irritating my throat and teeth. I had surgery to fix it all in 2009.
Regardless, liquid is liquid and you are probably getting the needed fluid via food and other drinks.0 -
The need to drink 8 glasses of water a day is a complete myth. Most of the water you need comes from the food you eat. It won't hurt you to drink some extra fluids unless you go way overboard, but there's absolutely no requirement.
Edit to add: I've lost 80+ pounds total without purposely drinking any extra water.0
