I have been running for 4 months now. I started doing 2 miles in 30 minutes. I gotten myself up to 3 miles in 33 minutes. I do this three to four times a week. Lately, after the third mile, I run another 10 minutes at a slow speed, trying to get my endurance up. I also do a core/strenght training class once a week. This week I started a kickboxing class as well. Problem is I have not lost any weight. Not even one pound. My pants are not even a little looser on me. What am I doing wrong. I have been eating alot better and cut out almost all sugary drinks(sweat Ice tea is my favorite) and have only one on the weekend. Help!

weight loss is done via calories since you're not really burning as many calories as you think you are with running . the general rule of thumb is every mile = 100 calories.
what's your diet like?0 -
I wont lie, I like my sweets. But the past few months I really have limited that. I have a fig neuton or two if I want a cookie. I have been having salads often for dinner, with chicken or chick peas for protein. I dont even put salad dressing on my salad(never have) or my dinner is alot of veggie(squash, tomatoes, etc) tossed in a little olive oil and sauteed on the stove. I like a yogurt a a few almonds for breakfast. Lunch usually consist of a pb and j sandwich. I snack on carrots, some type of fruit, and have something like a nature valley gronola bar during the day. This time of year there is alot more fruit in my diet. Fresh picked blackberries are my favorite. Watermelon is another favorite.
I do have a 4 and a 6 year old - so there is an occassional snacking on junk food with them - an ice cream cone on a hot day.
When I put in what I eat on MyFitness is generally says I should weigh 10 pounds lighter in five weeks, but I never am.0 -
I've been having the same problem. I do HIIT with the treadmill or outside for 30-45 minutes. Apparently by having the fast sprints and allowing your body to recover every so often, its more effective for fat loss. But I've also heard from some alternative health experts that people are not meant for running on a routine basis, especially women. Going back to our roots, we would only run for long distances in an emergency, so our bodies may be programed to think "it's an emergency, time to go into stress mode" and hold onto weight. Of course, this is not scientific, but my god, it makes sense for my body too! Sometimes I swear I gain inches even if I am counting calories. Is there a way you can fit yoga or pilates in replacement of some of your running? It helps in actually shaping your body and you're not causing so much stress (I should really follow my own advice haha!)
Also look into cortisol levels, I guess this is basically what I was talking about above when it comes to stress. Cortisol makes you gain weight in your stomach which could have to do with your pant size not dropping.0 -
You can out-eat any exercise program. Depending on your pace, it can take 25 minutes of treadmill time to burn off one glazed doughnut. Fat loss is 80% kitchen and 20% gym.0
