Just wondering what everyone's go-to tip is for beating cravings (especially when you have limited or no calorie allowance at the time). I'm not starving myself, my stomach just likes to eat constantly. xD And it leads to a disastrous daily log. haha

How do you beat the hunger pains? :)

I either drink water, or eat veggies like carrots, celery, cauliflower, just enough to tide me over.

If you're actually hungry, then you probably don't have the calories figured out right in your plan. If it's more of an "eating out of habit" thing, then these little tricks might help.
  • First I drink water to see if its hunger or thirst.. if its truly hunger then I eat almonds unless its close to meal time then I just eat a meal.
  • Keep up with the Water (I add a bit of lemon juice to make it different). Right now I'm sitting here hungry and I just had dinner 2hrs ago (I guess that's what I get for not putting enough carbs in my dinner).. I'll go to bed shortly after I drink a massive glass of water. You just have to train yourself to not give into the hunger... once the feeling starts have a glass or two of water, and if you still feel actually hungry in half an hour try celery or some steamed brocolli. Hope that helps
  • I drink lots of water, or a hot drink (usually a low cal hot chocolate or tea but coffee works too). Or I take a few deep breaths and do something to take my mind off it - read a book, exercise, go for a walk, etc.

My advice is to make sure when you do eat to make sure you have proper balanced nutritious meals. Research online food that keep you fuller longer. High protien, high fibre stuff. Oats for breakfast usually keep me going until lunch, a sugary cereal bar won't, so it's worth investing a few extra calories in proper food rather than getting hungry an hour after eating a meal. I haven't looked at your diary, so I might be totally off the mark.

If you are genuinely hungry though, then eat. It could be that you have your calories wrong? Just eat a little more to supress your appetite. If it's because of boredom/stress etc (which is def when I find myself overeating) then I usually find a black coffee, or green tea help a little.

    Good Luck x

Make sure you calorie goal is high enough (had to throw that in, ya know). Assuming that's good...

-Give yourself a timer. Tell yourself that if you're still "hungry" in ten minutes, you can have a snack - a healthy one, obviously

-Distract yourself with something silly like facebook or imgur or whatever mindless website can keep you busy long enough to forget the craving.

-Exercise... oddly I feel less hungry after a workout. Or at least, I'll feel less ravenous like I want to eat the whole kitchen. I get more under control.

-Drink lots of water or chew on ice

-Just eat something very very low calorie like celery or broth or pickles... something that even if you go a little crazy will not add up to much at all
Hope those help, those are my (usually successful) tips!

carrot or capsicum strips dipped in either hummos or guacomole. Make them yourself (clean food is digested easier and both contain great fats that fill you for longer), and have the vegies chopped up and on hand when you get peckish. Water is not food, and yes, it is good to check if you are actually thirsty, because sometimes thats what it is. but if you want a low calorie snack because you are hungry, make it a satisfying one so that you're not tempted to gorge later on, it will only cost you more calories in the long term :)

Drink water and herbal tea. Then do some crunches.

    FIBER AND PROTEIN!!!!!!

Why? Because fiber and protein BOTH digest VERY slowly. What happens? You get that full filling and lose your desire to eat. Couple that with water and you should do fine. How often are you eating? Are you following a 5-meal nutrition plan? I follow Insanity's nutrition plan (5 small meals a day) religiously as well as take an appetite suppressant. I rarely get hungry before its time to eat a small meal AND I include fiber and protein DAILY.

  • I totally agree with the fiber and protein post. My way to handle and keep away cravings is a bottle of water and nuts. Just eat them one at time so as not to go over board. They have healthy fats, protein, fiber, and keep you feeling satisfied longer!
  • Drink a lot of water and try eating more small meals versus fewer large meals. It keeps you full longer and boosts your metabolism. Many diet and exercise plans advocate between 4 and 6 meals a day, about 2 to 3 hours apart

When I have a craving, I work it into my diet within a few days so I can look forward to it. That being said, I try to make sure I have five meals a day - breakfast, lunch, dinner, 2 snacks. That way I'm never going too long before I can have something to eat. I tend to eat more out of boredom, anyway, so keeping busy is important, too.
