Hey everyone,
I'm slightly new here and I have made the life changing decision to become a vegetarian. I'm doing this to not only help with my weightloss but to live a healthier lifestyle in general. I'm looking for other members who are also vegetarians who could help me out with the transition. Recipes, tips, advice, anything is helpful

Yay for you! I don't have much advice but I have been a veggie for almost two years and I love it! Constantly discovering new foods and I feel so much better than I did when I ate meat.

I went cold turkey (haha) when I cut out meat but others have had success slowly phasing it out such as first red meat, then chicken, then fish. The best thing to do is whatever feels comfortable for you. I do still have the occasional craving for chicken or fish but there are lots of great "veggie" meats out there to try (in moderation, of course).

    Good luck to you!

I'm being very lazy at the moment, but when I get cooking again I will share recipes etc! For now it's veggie sausage sandwiches or veggie burgers! lol.

I started a few weeks ago, but I eat fish and eggs. I find it really easy. I thought it would be super hard, but it's not at all. I've just added a lot more fruits and veggies than I am used to eating.

One thing I've noticed is that I generally feel more full, but not stuffed heavy full, just full. It's a feeling that I am still adjusting to. I dont' get that super heavy full feeling anymore, but my stomache feels full. I am eating more, and have put on a couple of pounds because I keep searching for that really heavy full feeling you get when you eat meat (chicken, pork, or beef). So that's been the main adjustment. But, I like some of the new foods I am eating now, and eating more of.

Hey I'm veggi and have been for a while now. Things like soya mince are really good for protein. I do use some meat replacement like soya chicken style pieces and mince so you can make all the meals you did before. You can get really cook, cheap veggi cookbooks off amazon too

Make sure you get balance like spinach for iron etc You will have no problems

There is loads of veggi stuff out there that is really tasty, you made a good choice!

I've been a vegetarian for 14 years. Anyone can feel free to add me if they are active and supportive! Lately I've been trying to cut back on the fake meats (even though they are tasty!) in favor of more natural foods. So I'm constantly trying new recipes!

Not a vegetarian at all but just wanted to say make sure to get lots of protein that have a full amino acid profile! If you remove meat make sure you're getting everything in meat elsewhere.

LOL. Not a concern at all. That is basically mental *kitten* from the meat industry who owns our government.

A person not eating meat has absolutely nothing to worry about regarding protein. If anything, there tends to be a B12 deficiency taht can occur over time. I take a B12 pill everyday, just in case. But, that's the only concern that I am aware of. the protein thing is a myth.

Thanks everyone for the advice :) I'm excited to get started :) I'm doing cold turkey as well. For now I am eating fish and eggs but I find that I didnt really eat a whole lot of meat before anyway so I'm finding it a bit easy at this point. My family also eats very healthy so they are supportive.

Hello, I am not a vegetarian but eat a mostly vegetarian diet with meat a couple times a week. I would love to have some vegetarian friends to help me out with healthier living, good veg recipes, etc. if you don't mind having a friend with an omni food diary.
I totally agree that there are plenty of ways to get adequate protein on a vegetarian diet, but I have found that when I eat less meat I sometimes have trouble with my iron level. Not to the point of anemia or anything, I've just been turned away from donating blood a few time which bums me out. You can totally do it, just pay more attention to eating balanced foods. Love those dark greens and beans

You should check out the veg*n groups and join one of them. Happy Herbivore is one. I think another popular one is Team Vegan (I think). Just do a search and you'll find them.

I don't know if I'm understanding this post correctly, but you do not need to eat ONE food with all the essential amino acids. If you eat a variety of whole foods you will get the nine essential amino acids you need.
