Homemade French Fries

I'm wanting to make homemade french fries tonight, but am not sure how to calculate the calories. If I use sliced up potatoes and cook in oil...how do you calculate how many calories in the finished product since you don't eat the whole amount of oil?? Hope this makes sense.

  • what about just tossing the potatos in a little Olive Oil and sprinkling with some seasoning.....then oven roast? I layer them on a baking sheet, use Trader Joes 21 Salute seasoning mix which is salt free....bake about 367 degrees F 30-45 minutes. Stir them around/turn over about 1/2 way thru. That way you can measure/control the amount of oil..........

I could possibly do this, but it is sooo hot outside right now and running the oven for that long might kill us hahah!!
  • yeah, that is a drawback....another option might be if you have an outdoor gas grill...haven't tried that myself tho.....Good luck!..

From what I've seen for deep frying they calculate the calories as10% of the total oil used -- you want to be sure your oil is up to temperature though if you use this method because your food can soak up a ton of oil if it's not. If you're pan frying in a few tablespoons of oil just deduct the amount of oil left in the pan.
