    too many carbs

^^ This, WAY too many carbs

Doesn't matter how many carbs people... why not give my diary a peek. I eat HIGH carbs and low protein. You can eat whatever you want its about the deficit and working out! Not very hard!

I think your numbers are wrong!! Have you researched your BMR and TDEE????

Plus, I do also think your burns must be overly estimated... be careful with that, try not eating back ALL of the calories if you are estimating your calorie burns.

are you eating enough?? I'm guessing probably not.

Ugh, if you aren't going to look at the diary, you shouldn't make suggestions... she is eating over 2k on most days... I think for your height 4'5'' that is probably to much and you aren't leaving room for a deficit.

Too many carbs, too much sugar, too much food that comes premade. I'm not saying become a vegan chef, but at least try cooking a few of your meals yourself. Rice is simple, buy a rotisserie chicken instead of a chicken sandwich, boiling some fresh veggies, scramble some eggs, try having more things that definitely don't come out of a factory. You'll be surprised at the difference it can make. Also, too much food in general. Don't eat back your exercise cals unless you're like, an athlete, or doing something super vigorous. As far as vigorous goes, maybe try some exercise videos! There's all levels and they'll actually get you moving more than cleaning and things.

actually, if she is just over 4 feet tall and weighs almost 200lbs, there is a chance that she is insulin resistant. IF she is insulin resistant, eating 200g of carbs a day will actually make her GAIN weight instead of lose it. I am 5'2" and 8 years ago I gained 30lbs on WW and working out at curves. When I cut my carbs down to 50g net per day, I lost 20lbs in 2 months. This time around I lost 7lbs ( in 3 months) on a normal diet, but when I cut my carbs down to under 100g net I lost 17.8lbs in the same amount of time.
  • Basically I've Been On A Diet For 8 Weeks (4 Weeks On My MFP) & I Have Been Exercising But Im Not Losing Any Weight Not Even 1pound I Don't Get What I'm Doing Wrong My Eating And Excercise Has Changed So Much Compared To A Few Months Ago , Do Any Of You Know What I'm Doing Wrong ??

Hey there Chelsea I had a little look at your diary. First things first I'd like to say your breakfasts are fantastic and healthy and seem really wholesome. They put mine to shame, I could take a leaf out of your book.

I've noticed you like take away style food, in particular burgers. Maybe you could try and make your own at home using mince? If that seems a bit too much at first, you give oven veggie burgers a whirl they have a lot less fat. Maybe make potato wedges instead of buying chips, they're nommy and really fast. If you note my food diary you can even buy chip shop curry sauce, it's really tasty. It might be worth having a look at making your fav foods at home and making more than you need so another day you can just heat it up, which would save a lot of calories, time and money.

Also, as you don't want to make diet lifestyle change a horrible one, maybe set a special date, once a week or fortnight for takeaway like McDs and you'll appreciate it a lot more. Trust me I was queen of Greggs, pizza and Indian takeaway, now it's less often. It's difficult but worth it :)! xx

    Hope that helped :)! xx

Okay, you're getting in basically no raw fruit or veggies. Skip the juice and switch in real fruit instead- the fiber will help a lot. It would be a really good idea to track your sodium instead of vitamin C, and track fiber too. You need a lot more vegetables, less carbs from bad sources (like white bread and pizza dough), and less ready-made foods if you can. If you track your sodium, you'll probably be grossed out by just how much salt is in all those ready-made foods. And sodium is a BIG factor in retaining water, which means no movement on the scale.

Thanks I'll Try That & I'm Only Drinking Orange Juice In The Morning Because I Don't Know What To Drink As I Use To Drink Pepsi & Cola.

Juice is filled with sneaky sugars! Basically, replace all liquids with water and make sure to get at least 8 cups a day!

losing weight, sure you could eat at a deficit twenty twinkies a day...but for weight loss AND health, it might not be the best idea. However, that's not rocket surgery, I'm sure you knew that though ;)

Eat real food, skip McDonalds, biscuts, and fried rice.

How are you estimating calories burned. Some of those numbers seem high to me.

Don't eat back your calories, on the days you're logging 1500+ exercise calories you'd need to do at least 3 hours solid cardio to get that kind of burn, I'm talking treadmill, bike etc. If that's not what you're doing then you are overestimating.

Agree re the carbs too. Cut out the bread, pizza etc.

What I use for drinks now is either
    1- plain water
    2- MIO
    3-crystal light
4-OCCASTIONAL cup of milk when I am craving dairy (and if there is no yogurt around).

I will drink diet pops as well rarely...but mainly water/water with flavouring.

My meals also have to be AT LEAST 50% veggies...and all of my snacks are now fruit (or when i crave "sweet" items - i eat fruit).
ex - this morning I had a tossed salad with french dressing on the side, a chicken wrap with cucumber and tomato. So everything on my plate was a veggie except for the tortilla, chicken (good protein) and the dressing on my salad.

Orange juice is better compared to soda. Buuuuut, it has a lot of calories and sugar. Stick to a teeny, tiny glass. 8 ounces. Drink water! Coffee! Tea! No sugar added. or just a teaspoon.

Try a book called "Eat this not that".
  • Don't log in your cleaning and other stuff that you do around the house - you did that before you decided to start losing weight and it didn't do anything for you... right? : )

Cut processed foods, eat more white lean meat, switch to whole grains, add fruits and veggies. Drink water or tea instead of juice.

Eat egg whites instead of whole eggs, add more protein and reduce carbs (I am not saying go low carb, I am saying choose a better balance). Cardio at least an hour a day, even if you have to split it into two or three sessions.

Google! There are SO many resources online....

Just had a look at your exercise diary, I NEVER add things like cleaning, gardening and day to day things, exercise for me is dedicated cardio workouts ie. running, cycling, cross trainer, aerobics class etc. Also, the step ups you are logging are calculating a 1300 calorie burn per hour, there's no way this is the case, it will be more like 3-400 max.

I know very little, but I think you are eating too many calories. If you are really 4'5" you shouldn't eat above 2000 cals. My boyfriend is 6'4" and was told to eat 2000 cals, I have to eat way less and I am 5'9" and we both workout 5 times a week. And If you are not using a heart rate monitor please don't eat all you exercise calories back. I use a hrm and compared to MFP stimates and they are overstimated.

There is a really thin line between maintenance and weight loss.A few calories too many or not enough calories burned and you just maintain

She is just pointing out that the people blaming carbs and sugar are wrong....She thinks that the high calorie intake, not working out, no cardio but walking and lack of weight training is the problem. So you two agree with each other

Just to note here, one might well be able to lose weight still eating a tonne of junk, but that does not mean they are necessarily healthy, nor that their insides are healthy or will remain healthy. I personally believe eating relatively clean, wholesome foods 80% of the time at least, is the best way to go for both weight and health. It might work to still eat a lot of processed foods in terms of seeing results, but I can guarantee that those who eat mostly clean get much better results, and will look better on the inside too 10 years down the line.

I think balance in both calorie intake and food quality is equally important. I have seen over weight people who claim to eat clean but they are still big. All in all, calorie in and calorie out. There are more fine points to it but the general guideline is the simple math.

I took her at her word about the exercise. Perhaps that was a mistake on my part. That said, I don't think being thin and muscular is the same thing as being healthy. I don't think you get healthier by living off junk food. This is our opinions and they are just as valid as yours. I think, for optimum health, what you eat is just as important as keeping your calories reasonable and moving your body.
  • You need to watch what you are eating,, eat only healthy foods -- cut your calorie intake,,, and do more excerise.. I know its hard,, but you need to put your mind to it and just do it,,,

Firstly, I'd start by getting rid of any excess sugar and fat that you don't actually need. How can you look at your diary entries and the food on there some days and think I've had a really good day when you've got straight sugar, butter, take out foods, lots of carbs...

Breakfast - lose the juice and if you do need a sugar/sweet fix, have a piece of fruit. Also ditch the sugar. There are SOOO many better alternatives, such as using honey, sweeteners or the best by far Natural Sweetener (Nativa is a brand I use in Australia). I love having multigrain weetbix with a banana sliced up on it and with a teeny bit of honey or nativa sprinkled on top!

I was similar to you to a certain extent with fast foods/take out. Limit this - it really is full of excess crap and the quality is poor and not filling. To start with, I treated myself with a 12gram chocolate treat at the end of my day each day... I don't need to do this anymore. I also treated myself to having take out once per week (and occasionally do as I do have a social life!).

When I started I was on 1200 calories and I exercised lots too, I bought a HRM and used that for accurate calories burned and I rarely ate my calories back. I also started off by eating weight watchers etc calorie controlled prepared meals (yes it's got approx 100-200mg of extra sodium, but it's not THAT much really) for lunch.

I aim for x 2 pieces of fruit per day (usually breakfast and morning tea), lean meat, calcium & vegetables/salad daily.
Breakfast: Weetbix or porridge mixed with fruit (banana, strawberries, etc.), or eggs made into a vegetable omelette, or poached or boiled eggs on multigrain toast.
Morning Tea - Low fat greek yoghurt mixed with fruit and muesli and a 130gram baked beans
Lean meat and salad (on a wrap, multigrain bread) or a Weight Watchers meal between 250-350calories for lunch (this is usually my carbohydrate meal (rice/pasta with meat & veg)
    Afternoon Tea - Almonds/nuts.
Dinner: Lean meat again with salad or veg.
    I am currently on a 1500calorie diet.

It's hard when you first start, but you'll see learn about QUALITY & QUANTITY and if you focus on a more fibre & protein based intake rather than too many confined carbs (opt for complex carbs and watch portion size) and too many fats you'll see results.

Just in the last two days you have logged calorie burns for cleaning and 60 minutes of vigorous situps and then ate back a lot of those calories. There is no way you burned 700 calories doing situps. Only log and eat back cardio calories and you'll start losing.
