I am in the process of trying to slowly change my eating habits.I have aweful eating habits. But, I have made many positive changes over the last few weeks. I try to keep my calories, fat, sugar and carbs below MFP suggestions.
I was hoping for some opinions on my food diary. I have lost 11lbs in almost a month also lost about 6 inches around my waist. I am due for another weigh in when I get to work today. I feel as though my wieght may be down by a little more today. Food suggestions are helpful!
I know some people are not a fan of VIsalus. However, I find the shakes tasty and soooo easy. I will not change this aspect of my diet in the near future. No, I am NOT a distributor!
Thanks in advance for input!

Your diary is not open ;-(
You can change it under Settings > Diary Settings0 -
My comment, too...having that diary open really helps for accountability. Don't worry about how you've eaten before. We all start where we do. You won't find people judgemental of your eating! We all have things to improve...that's why we're here! My eating is still far from where I want it to be, but I am doing a lot better than I was when I started. (I have a sweets and carbs problem..and still struggle to eat my fruits and vegetables.) Let others see what you are doing so they can offer you encouragement and advise - it really helped me! Good luck to you, and WELCOME!!!!!! :flowerforyou:0

Oops, sorry guys! I will try to open it. I have been logging everything I put into my mouth faithfully. No matter how sad it maked me.0

It is now open for public view . . . i think . . .

First, congrats on your loss! I will say that you may see that first sharp drop level off, but don't let that discourage you!
I looked at your diary going back a couple of weeks and I can really see the positive changes too! My first advice is WATER! Fill up that glass at the bottom of your diary! Your body needs it to handle the vitamines in the shakes and to be able to release the weight. 8 - 8 oz. cups a day is not too hard if you plan it in or get some containers and pre-fill them.
I see you adding fruit here and there which is good, more is better - let that be dessert. Add more unprocessed vegies. You switched from potato flakes to a real one, which gives you tons of potassium and awesome nutrients. Peas are a powerhouse little vegetable, our moms knew what they were talking about when they said to eat them! Add others too. If you want a vegetable, buy it frozen or fresh instead of canned.
Also, meet your calorie needs. MFP gives you a setting that is LOWER than your body needs to maintain. On really low days, you are under-feeding yourself, that could lead to extra hunger and back to bad habits.0 -
More veggies! That is what jumps out at me.0

Thanks for the advice guys!
I agree whole heartedly with adding more veggies. I DO like veggies! I have been trying to add in more that I can enjoy without butter. Fruit, I almost need to convince myself to eat. Except tomato, cherries and avocado (avacado is a fruit?) Sometimes I will eat fruit . . . I recently bought some nectarines and cherries (I LOVE cherries). Usually, I really cant afford cherries. But, they were on sale for $1.99 lb! I could not resist!
I do drink a lot of water. I have a 240z water bottle that I fill 3-4 times per day. I just got too lazy to log it.
I guess the biggest question I have is . . .
If I do not feel hungry, do I still need to eat more calories?
I eat something when I feel hungry, my food intake is usually spread throughout the day. When I am hungry I eat until I am satisfied then dont have anything else until I feel hungry again.0 -

Hey, this is actually a question I have had throughout my (short) weight loss journey. If someone had answers for me I would greatly appreciate it.
I come out below my calorie goal frequently. I dont even notice that I have until I log everything at the end of the day. I do not spend my day hungry, and am not usually one to eat if I I dont feel hungry.0 -

It might be heplful to see how you come out at the end of a week. At the top of the screen there is a tab for reports, get the one on nutrition for the week or 30 days, or even just figure it on paper. Get an idea if you are close overall for the week. I eat a bit more protein if I am hungry but still try to stay close. I am 51, short, and don't have too far to go now so I don't have a bunch of "wiggle room". Others have more. If I am not hungry, but I am far under, I try to eat a bit but I get hungry in the middle of the night if I don't so don't go by me. I also lift weights which ups my appetite.0 -
I don't eat if I am not hungry. My view of your diary is that it is not very healthy. You might be under cals, but there is way too much processed food and not nearly enough fruit and vegetables. You should try to substitute fruit and low fat yogurt and cheese for your snacks. Eat more salads and homemade soups. Shakes are ok occasionally but I would try to only have one a day and to eat something fresh like a salad the other meal.
Feel free to look at my diary. I haven't used it in the last week or so as I reached my goal, but the first two weeks of July I used it a lot. I am the first to admit I am not perfect, but all we can do is try and gradually improve.
Sorry, don't mean to be negative! On the positive side, good job on portion size and making an effort to be healthier!0 -
I'm not sure if you're a good cook or not. I would suggest that instead of relying on the
shakes, get real food. Not sure what is up with the pudding, though. eat fewer, replace it with a fruit you
like. especially since it's summer and most are cheaper.
I would suggest starting small, like 3-4 real meals a week, that are square and unprocessed. and then build on
that after 2 weeks.
I know a lot of people start off with "what is an actual serving" and "how do I cook healthy(er)"
Get a good cookbook, I highly suggest an in-depth betty crocker cook book. I have one that explains how to
cook certain foods and at what temp. which cooking oils do what, which seasoning go with what foods and combinations.
read through it (I mean read. not look at the the picture and name kind of thing)
mark 12 that you like. cook them all before the end of a set date. There are also cook books out there for quick-meals.
It's so awesome, I inherited my gramma-in-law's cook book collection. Oh Happy Day!0
