A few questions about weightloss and working out!

HI! So question #1: Does having a "splurge day" help you more or hurt you? I can see how it can help and I can also see how it can hurt your weightloss journey.
My 2nd question: Is it true "speed walking" is better and burns more calories then running? I ask this because I've been told both ways.
That's all I can think of for now. lol

I cant bring myself to have a true splurge day! However I'll have a splurge dinner....where ill have pizza but I still won't eat much. I'm striving for a lifestyle eating change therefore I try to always pay attention to my calories..ill fall into bad eating again if I don't watch what I eat.
As for speed waking verse running I am not sure but I used to speed walk and now I'm transitioning to running. Per my hrm i burn more calories than I did and I definitly more challenged.0 -
I definitely agree with Maria on the splurging. I NEVER will splurge all day, maybe just a meal. I try to do breakfast, so it's easier to burn it off.. Like pancakes and bacon
Then I just make sure I get some good cardio in later that day, and I never feel guilty!
As for the running/speed walking... I think everyone will have something different to say. Either one is great! But I don't do either.. I do a Jillian Michaels video, the Cardio blast, Burn fat, Boost metabolism.. I think I burn more that way then walking OR jogging!0 -
I agree, I have a splurge meal every once in a while, and I pick something yummy like a steak!
The problem with a splurge day is it can get you off track...and you figure well, I blew it so I might as well blow it big...so be careful...I dont trust myself around my weakness foods (carbs) so I shy away from those on a splurge! Good Luck!
(AND I do a little more exercise on a splurge meal day)0 -
I've read that speedwalking burns more calories because it is a less efficient movement for the body. At a certain speed, the body wants to change gait into more of a jog/run because it is simply more efficient. I've noticed it myself. However, I don't know how much of a practical effect there actually is. I'd say the one that is higher on the Rate of Perceived Exertion scale for you is probably the one that is burning more calories, since intensity probably trumps efficiency for calorie burn. Just my two cents.0

Yea, I meant by like a meal or something when I said splurge day. I know going all out all day would not be good. I had a big meal with my husband tonight and a candy bar so I told myself this could be my splurge day. I still went for my walk so I don't really feel bad about it. I don't want to cut out what I enjoy eating so I figured a splurge day once a week wouldn't be so bad. Normally I would drink a glass of coke but it'll make me want it and I'll have more and eventually nomore diet/ cutting back.0
