success stories after hysterectomy weight gain?

I would love to see some before and after pics with women who underwent a hysterectomy and had trouble with weight gain especially in mid section. I had mine in 2010 and gained 20 lbs afterwards but so far lost 4 lbs following MFP. It seemed if I ate a pixie stick i'd gain a lb :grumble: Its a lot harder to keep maintained than it was before my hysterectomy. I know exercising is key and a healthy diet... just want to see some success transformations out there.

:flowerforyou: Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

  • i'm in the same boat you are! I had a hysterectomy last year and gained 30 lbs in 3 months! i've been a running fool since and gone to the doctor and had multiple tests done. My family doctor says a hysterectomy has NOTHING to do with weight gain. I go see my gyno at the end of the month and I will be sure to bring this to her!

I will be checking back to see if anyone has found the secret to losing weight after this surgery!

I only gained 3-4 kilos, and never thought it might have anything to do with my hysterectomy - but now you guys mention it, that's the one main change in diet and lifestyle over the last years, after 10 years of maintaining my diet very well!

I'd love to know more about this, if it's a common problem.

I was thinking - I don't know if this is a secret to weight loss, but my doctor told me that a period of grief - with exhaustion, a certain amount of letting yourself go, and lower activity levels - is common after a hysterectomy. It makes sense, as it's a vital part of the female body which is gone.

This may be why I gained weight: Being passive, not being as sharp as I should have been on diet and allergies, drinking a bit more, indulging a bit more. Now I am losing weight, not as quickly as I'd like, but still, it's going. I am just skipping alkohol, nuts, sushi and glutenfree bread products, otherwise it's business as usual. And now I am feeling very good, the problems that led to the hysterectomy are gone, and I am back to getting my life and health on track.

It may not be more of a secret than this, either to gaining or losing weight after this kind of surgery.
