Any women experience this freaky phenomena? My stomach literally does not have a full point for a week every month. I am NEVER full. NEVER not hungry. Any tips or tricks to get through this time? I know I could eat all rabbit food but something tells me that isn't going to cut it.

I'm right there with you right now and it's driving me insane!!!!
Usually I can distract myself, go for a walk, pop in an exercise dvd etc, but tonight nothing is working....and I can't sleep either!!!0 -
I too suffer from this, it sucks BIG TIME!! I really don't have many suggestions but I do drink this Yogi fasting tea and it helps but it's our hormones I hope someone has more ideas cause I need them too!!!!!!0

OMG i also suffer from this...maybe try smaller more frequent meals?0

I am like that too. It is sometimes ridiculous. I just have to eat. I usually cut up a load of different vegetables air popped chips, sweet potato (roasted), corn this with jam, chick peas. Just find some relatively low calorie but yum food and just eat it, all day. lol0

Pop corn, soup, satsuma, chopped apples with peanut butter, toasted oats with raisins. Go for a really long walk and then eat more. lol0

Argh, I can't find anything that helps, once I know why I'm crazy hungry I am usually ok, but it's usually the couple of days before my period that I get really hungry but because of my birth control (Jadelle - implant in the arm) I'm super irregular - so I never know, and I eat like a madwoman for a couple of days and then I'm like, oh crap - that's why I've been stuffing my face with chocolate and getting angry at the cat for looking at me funny...0

I was given some advice by a nutritionist, so for what it's worth am passing it on as it does help me - up your protein, try to limit the carbs, she also suggested a biotin/chromium supplement as well and of course plenty of water x0

Great suggestions. Even better is knowing that I am not alone. I almost felt like I was going a bit mad. Trying to think up reasons to break my diet... Self Sabotage is what I do best0

Hey hun, yeah thats so annoying when your time of month "munchies" come!
I usually crave junk at this time so what i try to do is have low fat junk type foods like weight watchers pizzas and treats or meat free (quorn) burgers and make homemade fries or wedges and bake them in the oven.
Hope this helps!0 -

Self sabotage is a *****. I'm currently trying to fight through the wall now and I don't have the excuse of a period. It's so frustrating!0 -
low carb! stay away from sugar and 'white' foods. ketosis cures cravings and suppresses the appetite.
lots of veggies (fibre to feel full) protein and fats.0 -
Hokai, but onto the topic now...
Here's what my friends and I do. On the FIRST day of your period when you really get hit hard with the cravings...give in! Don't go overboard, obviously, but use it as a cheat day.
I eat crap on the first day of my period. Usually it's either McDonalds, dill pickle Doritos *drool*, or pizza. Or all of the above. It depends on how super hungry I am. After I do that, the cravings tend to go away.
Also remember that while you're on your period, your body is burning extra calories to flush out your uterus. Sooo give yourself an extra 250 calories per day, and that's a low estimate. It should help the cravings and the constant hunger.0 -
Just a little update: All of my incessant complaining motivated my very annoyed boyfriend to attempt to solve my munchie problem. He cut a apple up in to like what looks like shoe string potato fries and sprinkled them with cinnamon. Its lovely and highly recommended. He was so impressed with his genius he insisted I share it with you ladies.0

I just came off of a year of continuous BC hormone pills (no sugar pill 1-week break, in there), which I was taking to suppress my normally super-heavy period (which is the way it is because of my extra weight. I've even had bouts of menorrhagia. It's NOT fun), so right now I am going through a pretty bad one. Even an extra strength Ibuprofen couldn't knock out the sweats and that "boot-to-the-ovaries" feeling.
Today I had a 591 ml bottle of Wild Cherry Pepsi, I had a 2-pack of Big Reese's Cups, and 3 big slices of pizza, and that was just the really crappy stuff in the midst of my other stuff. You know what, though? I marched my butt over to the rec centre gym this evening, hoohaa shored up with a quality pad (Always Infinity, I lurve you), and did upper body lifting for 75 minutes, and 30 minutes of walking on the treadmill. Factoring the walk to and from the rec centre, I logged another 40 minutes of walking. The endorphins helped curb all of my period pains, and I got to indulge in a big egg white omelet with cheddar, green onion, chicken, and homemade guacamole when I got home. I came in under my calorie goal with 9 to spare.
So yeah, eat some junk, but get thee to a gym to atone for your caloric sins. I know it's hard to think of doing in the first place, when you feel like crap from the time of the month, but once you get going on the workout, you'll probably feel a lot better.0 -

Lol, good job boyfriend!
That's what my fiance does for me if I'm cranky and on my period. An apple with cinnamon. He doesn't cut it up as nicely, but hey, he tries, lol.0 -
Does anyone else suffer from bizarre cravings? For example in the last six months or so I've craved raw meat (don't worry didn't indulge in that one), sour cream (it was on EVERYTHING and the tub had to be hidden), and blue (blueberries, blue Gatorade/Powerade, as long as it was blue I wanted it).0
-
I indulge myself. I figure it's stuff I avoid for the most part the rest of the month, so what the heck. I don't do lowfat stuff either, just the regular stuff. The fat gives you full feeling sooner anyway.
Because the cramping is insane I tend to workout more, though. When it hurts I hurt it back worse.
works for me.0 -
Losing weight has given me a period every two weeks at the moment, apparently due to hormone levels trying to balance out, but this also means I have that 'I'm so hungry I will eat a whole ranch of cattle given half the chance' syndrome. My Dr told me we lose iron with our period, which makes you feel hungrier than normal, so the best advice is to eat more iron rich foods. Supplements probably won't cut it, it has to be red meat, spinach, lentils, seafood, eggs, pumpkin seeds, breakfast cereals, nuts, and dried fruits.
See link for complete list: http://www.healthcastle.com/iron.shtml
I have to admit, by increasing my red meat alone, I have noticed a vast improvement.
Also, water retention is a *****, and the best way to get rid is to up your fluid levels during your period.
I know everything is individual - what works for some may not work for another, but worth a try at least. It worked for me, I hope it does for you guys too.

OMW I'm suffering with you. I won't even be hungry, but I'd end up eating tons.0

One word.. Water.
Either that or I'm completely abnormal as a woman (I won't rule that out). I started my TOM 3 or 4 days ago. I had 1 day where I had a little craving which I covered with about 5g of extra dark chocolate held in my mouth until it melted (took about half an hour) and that's all. I drink a TON of water, all the time. I usually stop counting at 8 (that's bottles not glasses). I was still a touch cranky but didn't have any issues with controlling the cravings.
I'm also 39 and pre-menopausal, maybe that cuts cravings? No idea. Just putting it out there in case it helps. I feel for all of you ladies that suffer so badly ;(0 -
HEY!!! So there are soooo many posts on here! Which is awesome!! But I can't find my glasses and I just can't squint through all of them, hope this hasn't been asked......
MY QUESTION: Yes I am starving and craving but I AM STAYING ON COURSE!!! But NOT LOSING ANY WEIGHT!!!
I am currently PMSing, my period has been wacky as of late (only lasting like 3 days but the pre-cramping lasts a week!). Why am I not losing anything right now? I am watching what I eat, drinking plenty of water. Someone suggested watching my sodium intake and possibly upping my iron, I know the iron will help the cravings but what will get my weightloss back on track???
PLEASE HELP!!!!
P.S.: Since I've started this life change my weight loss has been steady until now, it has stopped at about 5 pounds. It will not budge!! As in, it only moves back and forth about 0.4 a lb!!!0 -
Words cannot describe how glad I am to have found this post! I'm 45 and starting menopause early (TOM bounces all over the calendar). My hormones are so out of whack my doctor has diagnosed it as PMDD. The emotions are awful and my eating gets practically out of control. This upcoming TOM will be my first since I've started my journey here. I'm so grateful for the suggestions on this post. I'm going to stock my desk drawers at work appropriately and try to drink my way through it - water of course But maybe a small glass of wine at night might not hurt...0
-
I know this has been said before, but I am SO glad that I am not the only female with these issues! I used to never have PMS, which kind of was not all good because my period would just show up at the most inopportune times. After my sixth child, I have zits, cravings for every carb filled food in America, and cramps. It's horrible! I have to use face scrub, and special wash and zit cream to tame my face and last night I attacked my kitchen for any ounce of chocolate I had. Luckily the only chocolate was fiber one 90 cal brownies and a slimfast double dutch chocolate bar. Still I had three more sugar free hard candies and popcorn! I am like an animal on a hunt the week before my monthly friend comes and it is NOT pretty! I am also anemic so I also crave peanut butter and steak. Not a good week for me.0

Happens every month. I just make sure I eat plenty of protein, veggies, and healthy fats and ignore the calorie intake. I also allow my self chocolate when I'm craving it. Seriously, if your body is hungry it doesn't care what MFP says you should be eating. It just wants fed.0
