I really really hope this doesn't create a debate. I am really insearch of an answer. I searched the forums already and can't get past and answer in the 10K posts of muscle weighs more than fat.. which this is NOT that, I understand that stupid dead horse.

Here is my question - my weight is up - however, my body fat% has remained the same. I am the same size in inches and am not feeling like I've gained anywhere.

I'm marathon training and doing doubles. I do strength training 1x per day and cardio 1x per day. I'm eating right on point of where i have been all along. And have gained weight. I"m trying to figure out why. My strength training is low weights, lots of reps, and cardio weight lifting at the same time. Functional movement.

How do I know when Weight gain really is muscle weight vs fat or unhealthy weight. So do I need to change something to get the weight Off, or just go about what I have been doing and not worry about it. It's only 5 lbs and it's been in the past month.

Any insight or direction of where to look for answers would be appreciated.

Fluid? Have you had a good poop in a while? How long has it been up? How are you eating. Usually to gain muscle you have to be in a caloric surplus or have a ton of fat to lose in the first place. I'm assuming your pretty lean and unless you are eating a ton than your not in a caloric surplus with all the cardio and marathon training you've been doing.

Doing low weight with high reps and lots of cardio isn't really going to build any muscle. If you haven't changed size at all but your weight is up a little bit then it's probably just water retention. My weight can fluctuate 10lbs depending on what I eat or drink and the time of day.

Having said that, if your goal is to lose weight and you haven't lost any in a month (rather, gained 5lbs), you're probably either underestimating how much you're eating or overestimating how much you're working out.

It's been in the last month the gain has shown up, I don't think it's fluid or stools. That's just it. I'm not eating surplus, just about even on everything. That's what i"m not understanding. I'm about 17-19%. Maybe fluids as my body is doing some hormonal type things I can tell. I struggle with my thyroid, so any weight gain gets my immediate attention. I have up meat about 3 months ago and have switched over to mostly vegetarian diet (meat about 2-3 oz a week at the most). Fats are only good fats, and plenty of fruits and veggies, and nuts.

Thanks, I'm really great at logging food and probably over estimate food before I underestimate it. And I use a HRM for all my cardio, I underestimate all the calories on strength training, I use the HRM, but don't count is as much in calorie burn and always remove 100 from the calculation of calories burned. I'm positive I'm not in a surplus of calories, if anything, I'm consistently under.

With these suggestions, I'm leading more to thinking it's water weight. It's in the 100's here, so would the temps alone lead to water retention?

Is it something that I need to worry about - or just go with the flow?

if you gained muscle but your BF hasn't change your measurements should have gone up. Something has to be moving. How and when do you weigh yourself?
