What to eat before the gym?

I am on the bike at the gym for 60 minutes mid morning everyday. It seems like my protein powder is sufficient, but maybe I should be eating more? I'd like comments on this. Thanks.

doesnt matter what or when you eat for the most part. just hit your macros for the day. as a side note you dont NEED protein powder either if you can\will just get all of your protein from solid food.

For 60 mins on the bike I wouldn't worry about it at all. And I agree that you don't even need protein powder for that.

Thanks for your replies. I am doing a vegan (sometimes vegetarian) diet, so I think the protein powder protects me on the days I probably have a shortage.

    What are macros?

Im a vegan as well. I eat either oatmeal or cream of wheat 1 hour before my workout on cardio days. On weight training days I do the same but do a vegan protein shake afterwards with a frozen banana and frozen berries. I only do a the shake 3 days a week.

Don't eat anything heavy before your workout. If you do, give yourself time to digest it (1-2hr). The only thing I would stress is to use a vegan protein shake. The others are highly processed.
  • Before I do any physical work, whether it be resistance training or cardio, I try to at least eat something an hour or so before. Something simple like a banana or some raisins would do.

Macros are your carbs, proteins and fats. Read about it here:

My favore pre-workout meal is bacon. If I had to go without bacon, I'd probably have cashews.
  • Try not to eat at least 2 hours before you go to gym. This is because the food in your stomach will become uncomfortable when you exercise because all your blood will be directed towards your working muscle instead of digesting your food. When you do eat your body will need carbs to give your body the energy to exercise and some protein but, eat good wholegrain carbs nothing with too much sugar anything to refined isn't good. After gym make sure you get protein in your system because you will need it to help your muscles repair quicker and you will feel less stiff the next couple of days. :)
