self sabotage

Ok, I have a serious problem. I go to the gym but I dont push myself and I feel like a failure everytime I leave the gym. I know I can do better and get a few more minutes on the machine but I stop. Then I feel guilty and Its a downward spiral. I have a trainer and I dont make appts with him. HELP

Try and find some excercise you enjoy doing then you won't feel the need to avoid the gym or miss appointments. Some people enjoy the gym, cardio, lifting etc. But for some they push themselves more in a class, maybe zumba or something that you do with others would make you push yourself a bit more.

    Good luck :flowerforyou:
  • Make the appointments so you have someone to push you. Or invite a friend to come with you and tell them to push you.

Have you tried group classes. If you are with others working hard does that make you feel pressured to work harder? Then have a short workout on areas you need extra work on afterwards.

you get to the gym, that is sucess. Don't be so hard on yourself. This isn't a race. Look for motivation, read sucess stories, blog out your feelings, or give your next workout the extra push and reward yourself with something healthy.

or start competing against yourself. If you are running, start timing yourself and keep trying to beat your last time...something like that might help. and writing it down - I used to love logging my miles on a chart I kept in the garage because it gave me something tangible to look at and compare weeks to.

Or find a friend - real life or MFP - and say, "I have got to look better than her" and that will light a fire under your @ss!

a little competition against yourself or others is good for the soul!
