GERD and gluten

I've been trying to find info in gluten intolerance/allergy causing GERD.
I did find an article that said the reflux could be "coincidental to the true attack on the intestines." Makes perfect sense to me! I have had awful GERD for the past few years and had to take meds every day. I have cut out all processed foods, sugar and flour. I have not had to take any meds since! :-)

Anyone else have experience with this?

I have had GERD and lactose intollerance for years. Now suddenly I can not tollerate any milk products even with lactaid. I started reading up about it wondering why things changed and I have found several articles that say both conditions can be caused by gluten sensitivity. So now I am slowly looking for options but I haven't gone gluten free yet. I have a doctors appointment this week. I'll see what he had to say about it. *My doctor has also been wondering why my vitamin D levels have been so low despite having taken suppliments. Not being able to absorb vitamins is also a symptom of damaged intestines due to gluten sensitivity. I sure hope that going gluten free will cure all this (and more).0

Oh, definitely. My son had terrible reflux and stomach problems before going gluten free. I have a friend whose son was on very heavy prescription for GERD until going off of gluten, then went off the meds completely.0

Yep, definitly happens. Both my mom and I struggled with it before being diagnosed with Celiac. The very first day off gluten I was heartburn/acid free.0

I have GERD and have been taking medicine for it for over a year. I tried to come off the medication slowly, but couldn't. I never knew that there was a correlation.0

I had terrible GERD. I took meds for it and it never went away completely. I went off gluten and I have no more GERD. I am perfectly happy cooking with coconut flour, Almond flour and flax flour! I also went off processed cane sugar completely. I use Stevia, honey and tiny amounts of brown sugar.0
