My first day of exercise

Yey, I did it! I just started my big goals 3 days ago. The first two I spent changing my eatting habbits and decided that today I was just going to go full plunge into exercise. Wow am I not where I was last year, at all! I have free access to a gym and decided I was just going to do 30 mins on the elliptical, then 30 mins on the treadmill. I really did push myself. I did a total of 3.5 miles some with very very strong resistance.

I have such a long way togo! I looked at the heart rate chart on the side and it says someone my age (30ish/  I'm 28) should have a heart rate of 130-144, or something like that, to burn calories/fat. Mine was at 175 at one point!!!!!! :noway: I know once I do it regularly it will go down. I want to go 3 times a week, then do 2 days of yoga and light weights

Guess I just wanted everything to be easier, I hopped on the scale as soon as I got home    I really wanted to see a different number after all my work (one day of work) Yes I am silly and I know it

We only have one car, so hopefully my husband and I can find away for me to have morning workouts at the gym 3 days a week

You should take your resting heart rate before u start an exercise program. As you get fitter your rate goes down :)

I wish I had access to a free gym. I would be taking advantage of that. I normally just work out at home.

Great job being excited over working out! That's the hardest part for me! Keep it up, and your heart rate doesn't need to be excessively high. You want to keep it fairly close to the recommended heart rate for your age. Sounds like you're off to a great start!

And Kelly? Saw your ticker (and the note below it...) and I'm amazed by you! Great job!

You should invest in a heart rate monitor because there is a difference between fat burning zone and cardio zone. It can be difficult to keep your heart rate in the fat burning zone,

    Way to go!
After my first day of workout, I feel a nice burn in my muscles, not sore but I can tel they got used. Today I do not have as much time to work out, but I got in my early morning fifteen minutes and I am making great use out of the stairwell at work. I hope to get in fifteen minutes to a half hour of stretching and toning tonight. Keep up the good work.

Great job getting back on the exercise train!! Yesterday was my 1st day back to the gym too, got my membership at Planet Fitness, and I'm psyched. I'm definitely feeling muscles today that I didn't realize I had yesterday before I worked out...lol!!! I eased into strength training with a little cardio, so I'm gonna focus on light cardio today...don't want to push too much of a good thing right off the bat... So, best of luck with your dieting & exercising, day by day it will get easier, gotta have the want to make it easier!!!

If you can't drive walk! I told myself last year the local park was waaaaaay to far to walk to, but now I walk there and back pushing a 86 lbs stroller, well the stroller is only 40 lbs but it has two tots in it! My kids love it, they get to go to the park and I get a good work out. All I needed was to think I could do it.
I don't know how far the gym is from your house, but maybe you could get a ride there and walk back? Just an idea. Good luck with your goals!

Love the walking idea, and I used to walk places when they were close by, now I live by a busy hwy and the gym is 15-20 miles away  I do need to take my resting rate!

To tell you the truth, I did not want to go to a gym! I know I need cardio and I really have a hard time with aerobic video's, just not for me, so I knew I had to. I'm looking forward to summer's that I can go to the park with my dog instead, but for now this will work.

Happy for everyone else who also had their first day :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Let's all keep it up.
  • Will you or anyone here know how many calories on average one will burn by doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred( FIRST part) DVD workout?

Will4change, I do not. BUT I do know it really really works!!! I always hate her when I do it though  I know you probably want it to log the exercise, right? I think there's a thread on here somewhere (under exercise and fitness) that has a 30 day shred challenge. You may want to do a quick search and ask one of the people doing it.

I have one. The batteries are dead so I need to get them replaced.

I live next to a busy Hwy also. I could walk down my street but there are dogs down the road that are not tied up and are not friendly. I have a Treadclimber and some other stuff at home and that is what I do for my workouts. I love being outside and walking but that isn't possible where I live.
