lowered my cholesterol 33 points! no meds!!

I had to share . . . . went to my doctor 3 months ago for a regular physical. My blood work came back with a cholesterol level of 244, and he wanted to put me on Lipitor. I convinced him to give me 3 months to try to lower it on my own first. went back last week and now have a reading of 211! Thanks to MFP and lots of research, i have completely changed the way I eat . . . considerably less saturated fat, considerably more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains! I am going back in 3 more months with the hope it will then be under 200 and back in a health range! This weight loss journey is about so much more than the scale!

Good for you! I have naturally high cholesterol regardless of how much I exercise and what I eat. My normal is about where you are now and I have been able to stay off the meds. I nearly killed myself trying to get it under 200. Kudos to you!

That's excellent. Congratulations. But I wanted to tell you that fat is not a cause for either fat on the body or cholesterol. A low glycemic diet, one rich in meat protein, fats, veggies and fruits will take the cholesterol down when coupled with exercise. Also, L-Carnitine and CoQ10 will help with that too as will other minerals and natural substances. NatureMade has an excellent tablet to lower cholesterol and it does work. At any rate, I know you're happy about lowering your cholesterol. Make sure the HDL is very high compared to the LDL - that's far more important than the total cholesterol.

Congratulations!!! I lowered mine 51 pts in 9 months so that it's one point away from the range the doctor wants it in. (I"m not sure what all the numbers mean, but my doctor wanted it to be 50 or below and it was 102; after 9 months it was 51). I hope it continues to stay there!!!

Keep on working. You can do it!!!

I love seeing people take the initiative to fix their health before jumping on medications. Serious high five.

Congrats! I recently lowered mine by at least that just by eating better. “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” - Hippocrates

Congrats to you. I have to have mine rechecked this month. Last month it was 145, although my LDL/HDL ratio is good, I was told I need to try and get my LDL lower. I too declined going on medication and hope that my results this month will show improvement.
