Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone here has joined Team in Training. Do you love it? Is it hard to reach the goal? What destination are you going to?
It sounds like a great organization and group of people.

I'm assuming you mean the Team in Training that sponsors the Lymphoma and Leukemia society correct? If that is what you mean then it is an absolutely wonderful organization. My best friend used to be the President of TNT and he and his wife were coaches for them as well. She just recently stopped coaching however they are still very much involved in the organization. They originally became involved when their son was diagnosed with Leukemia (he has since been declared cured! YAY!) My husband and I are not a part of the group but because we are friends with the people who used to be coaches we used to participate in their trainings, like the cycling classes that they did to get prepared for the Lake Tahoe ride at the end of May. The people who are a part of TNT are a great bunch of people.
When you say "reach their goals" do you mean as far as fund raising goes? I don't see that it would be a problem even in today's economy.
If you are truly looking to join TNT I say go for it.0 -
I wanted to join a couple of years ago, but some info that I found online made me change my mind. It looks like a great support group for raising money and training. They offer you training tips, but they train at very specific times (ie: wednesday at 8PM and sunday at 6AM) so you have to be available then, otherwise you miss out. What really turned me off is that they make you sign a contract saying you'll raise a specific amount which is more than the value of the trip (ie: 2000$), and if you don't reach your fundraising goal you have to pay the balance out of your own pocket.
Also, I read a review where a guy was a few minutes late for the bus and they left without him, so he was stuck in another state.
I decided not to do it so I could be wrong... read as many reviews as possible, see what others say, and google Team in training reviews before signing up.0 -
I did it for my first half marathon, the support you get is like no other! However it was very difficult for me to reach the $1,300 goal that was mandatory so they dropped me after 5 weeks. I was training for the Disney princess half marathon.0

Hi Jennie, that is the TNT I am talking about. I am joining today. I can't wait. I will be running my first 1/2 marathon and helping raise money that is going to go to help with awareness and research of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.0

Thank you Ben, I will check it out!0

I just signed up for my THIRD event with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT) and I love it! My first event was in 2011 and I did a half marathon in Anchorage, AK, 2nd was a full in Detroit, MI and next I'll be doing the San Diego Rock n' Roll and I have yet to determine if it'll be a full or half. Full just means a lot of training committment!
You do have to sign a contract and you do have to raise a certain amount of money which includes your travel expenses (air/hotel) and yes, it may be over the cost of those expenses but the point is raising money to help the LLS bring awareness to blood cancers and help with research.
They don't kick you out when you can't raise the money; you have two options: 1) at recommitment date (about a month or two in) if you don't have the minimum recommitment amount required you can back out and TNT keeps what you have raised to date and you've just donated to the LLS, 2) if you do sign the recommitment and you haven't raised the minimum by the final due date you are responsible for the difference but w/my experience, your LLS/TNT liason will help you reach your goal even by personally helping with fundraisers. Unless you are doing nothing at all you won't have any trouble raising your minimum.
I've had no problems raising the money I needed for either of the two even'ts I've completed. For AK, I needed a minimum of $3,900 and I raised $4,600. For the 2nd event, it was local and I was an alumn so my minimum was low; only $1,000 and I raised almost $1,400.
Group trainings are set at a certain day and time once a week but the rest of the training is on your own time. Here in Michigan we have several Teams in the Metro Detroit area and we are welcome to train w/any team. Plus you can set up trainings w/your new friends on your team since you'll more than likely live near each other.
If anyone has any questions, please contact me and I would love to answer any questions or nudge you into siging up!
The feeling of accomplishment and the lifelong friends you make along w/knowing you are helping to save lives is priceless!
