I keep reading threads about eating more calories to lose weight. MFP put me at 1290 calories which I try to stick to I haven't lost much weight so the question is "Will more calories really speed up my weight lost?"

Depends on how much you have to lose. If you are seriously over weight, then eating a low calorie diet will be alright for awhile. You'll lose more muscle mass than you would if you ate a smaller deficit, but you'll lose weight very quickly. Eventually, you'll plateau though and you'll need to up your intake to continue to lose which will cause you gain a significant amount of weight (as much as 10lbs) before you start to lose again. This can be very very frustrating for some people but it's just your body's natural reaction to change. If you eat a high protein, moderate calorie deficit diet, you'll lose weight slowly but most of what you lose will be fat and you'll go longer before you plateau.0
