I don't know if there is a way for people to look at my food log or not but I need help! I keep gaining weight and I don't know why
I saw and endocrinologist hoping they could tell me what's wrong...I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome but other than that they couldn't give me an answer of why I'm gaining weight.

For your friends to see your food diary you just have to go into settings and change the options. I'll send a friend request to you as well0

I think there is/are PCOS groups on here that you can look to for support0

Looking at your Food Diary, a couple things jumped out at me:
1. YOU AREN'T EATING. You are waaay under your calorie goal frequiently. That wouldn't be so bad in and of itself since you have over 100 pounds to lose, but you could fine tune your overall nutrition. If you are going to under eat by hundreds of calories on such a regular basis, please see your doctor for a referral to a Dietician for a meal plan.
2. Are you doing any exercise at all? If so, then your under eating becomes more of a problem, since you haven't been logging any exercise.
Please get your doctor to help you.
Also go here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups Type in PCOS in the Search box. There are several groups with hundreds of members. They can more specifically address your particular issues.

I was exercising faithfully everyday by either running between 2 and 3 miles a day or swimming laps for at least an hour but I've given up. I keep building big bulky muscles and look even fatter than ever0

Hi there, here's my suggestions (completely based on my own personal opinion and personal experience with PCOS). I'm also early in this process for myself, but I have really learned so much about my own body in the last few weeks.
1. Track your sodium and fiber. Too much sodium can cause a problem, and enough fiber can really help, especilly when it is paired with a carb.
2. Eat more!! I think you are underfueling your body. Check out "Eat more to weigh less". I have found that it makes a big difference with my PCOS and blood sugar issues. And gives me enough energy to work out and live my day.
3. Eat consistently every day. I have noticed that I feel SO much better when I eat close to the same amount every day. I'm less tired, I don't jump up and down by 10 pounds all the time. I think it's because my body knows what to expect from me.
4. Drink water or track it if you aren't.
5. Talk to your doctor. Find out if you have insulin resistance issues, or if they recommend any medicines. Some people with PCOS really need help to regulate their body along with good nutrition and exercise.
6. Don't focus only on calories. Fiber, protein, and good healthy fats are also important. Especially with PCOS.0 -
My wife has the same issue. She is on metformin to help. I believe it helps to stablize blood sugar.0

A) you're eating way under calorie-goal
the calories you are eating aren't really "healthy" calories -- I think I saw things like Pina Colada's as a meal, cheeseburger and red velvet cake, etc. --> Take in healthier calories (fruits, vegetables, lean meats).0 -
Hello, you are getting some great advice here...even if it "feels" harsh, it's good stuff.
I looked at your diary, and yes, I agree you are not eating the best foods (fuel) and could stand to work on changing that. Also, you will need to eat more calories (I know, it sounds scary, eat more!?! I'll gain...but that could not be further from the truth.) Find out your BMR and your TDEE and eat between those amounts.
This calculator makes the work easy, just plug in your stats after reading the directions: http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/
Take a look at my food diary. Note that I eat often (you don't have to...but I chose to because I never get hungry or binge, I always have something around to eat.)
Eat 1gram of protein per each pound that you weigh, every day.
If you are not already doing so, I would recommend doing cardio AND weight lifting to tone and build muscle. You will not automatically turn into the Hulk, I promise.
I noticed you were not tracking your water, make that another goal - use a calculate to find out how much water you need and track it religiously. http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm
This is a great starting point, you don't have to be "perfect" but you will have to make some changes, even if you take babysteps.
BEst of luck.0 -
Oh! I forgot to mention. I have PCOS. In a lot of ways, I have found that my PCOS responds very much life diabetes (and leads to diabetes as well.) That means, for me...I need to stay away from carbs and sugars. At least, I can still have them in moderate amounts!0

Metformin + birth control pills = feeling better. Even though the getting used to the pills is wretched.0 -
I would only add to other comments, check your sugar too, I see many sugar stuff there: on Home click on 'Settings' then click on 'Diary Settings' and add Sugar to your list, you can add up to 6 columns.
I know it sounds more desperate to read you need to eat more, but if you don't feel comfortable following this advice, you have to get 1 or 2 doctors to tell you so yeah I advice too to go to a couple of Nutriologist to compare and see what they say in common.
Good luck!0 -
I also have PCOS. I found that once I changed the type of carbs I ate most of my symptoms eased up or went away entirely. And I'm finally dropping weight. I do not mean a low carb diet, just switching from breads, pastas, and cereals to lots of veggies, brown rice, and oatmeal. Many women with PCOS have great success from a low carb diet, but I think if you just switch to better, healthier carbs it will work as well.
I eat a gluten free diet because I have Celiac Disease, but I have to admit it's really helped my PCOS as well because I'm no longer eating junky carbs.
Alot of women with PCOS also have insulin resitance and thyroid problems. Make sure you're tested for those, because you will have to alter you diet depending on what's going on with your body. Added sugars in your diet will greatly affect your PCOS and I reccommend staying away from them and eating as cleanly as possible.
Are you taking any supplements? The right vitamins and herbal supplements will help balance your hormones and lessen your symptoms.
And as far as exercising, you should be doing about 30-45 minutes of it a day. Heavy weightlifting will especially be good for you. You will not get big and bulky, women do not have the genetics for that. I know you said you thought you were but I seriouly doubt it, you were toning muscle under layers of fat and that's what gave you that "bulky" look. Once you start shedding fat that bulkiness goes away and you see lean, strong muscles.

I have PCOS too and everybody is giving great advice! I have found - for me (may not work for everybody) - that taking cinnamon/chromium pills that I get at walmart for just a few dollars actually stabalize my blood sugar enough to keep me off metformin and birth control. And as you lose weight, the symptoms of PCOS actually get a lot better so I'm almost to a point now where I have very minimum symptoms. Def up your calories and get in your good lean protein.0

This! I take 4000 mg of Nature's Bounty Cinnamon + Chominum daily and that has helped my symptoms. Also look into a good multivitamin (I take GNC Women's Ultra Mega), B Complex supplement, and a fish oil supplement.
Edited to add: I also take a herbal supplement called Vitex, it works for some, it doesn't work for others. I personally like it. Some women also like Evening Primrose and Licorice Root.0 -
Anyone can see your diet and exercise dairies as long as your profile is not set to private. It doesn't look like you are drinking enough water or exercising enough, 15 min walks are not really enough to burn calories - your goal needs to be to burn more than what you eat so that the scale and your body mass is constantly going down. Eat protein and fiber and lessen your salt intake, lots of salt makes you retain water weight. Drink diet sodas if you drink soda, use your calories for food!0

....and 15 minute walks will burn more calories than sitting at the computer. Not a lot more, but more.0
