Putting on weight after a good week..?

Hi!

Just a week ago I got back on the horse and logging EVERYTHING along with more exercise. Been in the gym and doing classes 5 days in the past week and avoided using most of the calories "earned" from it. I am on 1230 calories day and put on 1.2kg (2.6lb) after the week! And I don't believe my muscles would've developed that quickly...

I have been weighing food and either doing home cooking or bought food with nutritional information and I can't see what I am doing wrong! Help, I do not want to lose my motivation again!!!

Thanks a bunch!

Are you tracking your sodium? If you've been eating lots of salty/processed foods you might be retaining water.

you also said you just started exercising a lot more. Read this: https://www.turbokick.com/wblog/?p=709

Have you been taking your measurements? Sometimes no loss shows on the scale but you have lost inches instead.

If you've been logging everything and really have been eating 1230 calories a day, there's no way you've put on more fat, so don't worry about it. Give it another week or two and you should start seeing results on the scale.

    Hi,

No, have not been keeping eye on my sodium levels, but I know I suffer from water retention.

And thank you for that very interesting article! This has happened to me before when starting to do more excersise and when I know I have done a lot and seen the scales gone up, I have become discouraged and had the "what's the point" thought. And I am suffering from muscle soreness, thanks to a great aerobics trainer who finishes the class with strenght training along with the "no pain, no gain" message :)

So a HUGE thank you for sharing , I will keep at it and look forward to seeing the weight start coming down!

    Water retention, dahling.

I can almost guarantee you're retaining a butt load of water because your muscles are THIRRSTTYYY. Remember, you're putting a bunch of stress on them all of a sudden. They're tired and they need H2O.

I'm almost positive you'll drop all the water weight, and then some, in a couple weeks. This has happened plenty of times to me.

Stick with it! You'll start seeing crazy results after a couple of weeks.

I can't find it..but on another diet forum I read the best article on how working out makes people stall or gain weight for up to six weeks sometimes..before their bodies stabilize and the false gain disappears. If I were you'...I'd stay off the scale for a month or so..

That is good to hear - Ive not budged an ounce for two weeks, despite strict 1200, weighing everything, only drink water and 6 workouts a week, im hoping it will come off eventually but its so disheartening!
