I've been using USN diet fuel for a while now, and while i love it, it's starting to get too expensive
it's about £16 and lasts 2 weeks. only because i halve the scoop per serving as it is pretty thick.
so are whey powders ok? or what else is pretty cheap?
should i just stick to what i know?

it's expensive because diet whey products are a total rip off, you are paying way over the odds for a basic protein powder with a few extra's thrown in (which you could get cheaper elsewhere anyway)
Protein powder is fine, within your protein and calorie allowance.
I could recommend some brands if you are based in the UK.0 -
if it'll give me better value for money! i think my powder is 1kg0

Those will last months and are about half the price.
The only thing the USN product has is extra fibre added but If you want you could then buy the fibre separately

you get free delivery on everything with bodybuilding warehouse, great company, their 'own brand' stuff is really good and well priced.
I even made a thread about this very subject!
