Going on vacation in January and want to set a goal. What's a realistic and healthy goal if I'm currently 223?

Another 25-35 lbs at a pound a week? You may lose faster, but that would be a good start.

I admire you wanting to set a weigh related goal by a certain date, but in my experience, that always sets me up for failure. It is very difficult to control whether your body wants to release the weight. I have been on plateaus lasting for 4 months before.

I love goals I have more control over like tracking every day, or drinking 8 glasses of water or eating 6 servings of veggies every day... The weight will follow.

thank you for your kind words! i like the idea of the smaller goals, maybe keep a magic number that would be nice in the back of my head but not too worried if i dont hit it.

Set a long term goal, 195 sounds reasonable.

Work your way back from there to figure out what you need to do month-to-month and week-to-week.

Then each week set a process goal and an outcome goal. For example:
process goal- fill out MFP at least 5/7 days per week and stay within my calorie range. - something you have control over
outcome goal- lose 1/2 to 1 pound per week.

This way you can focus on what you need to do in the short term and your long term goal will happen as a side effect.
