So this morning I made it to the gym half an hour before the normal time, so so I figured let me do 30 elliptical and 30 min total body workout. Well, my 30 min workout was more like 20. I couldn't stand anymore. What did I do wrong?

Your pace was too fast for that duration.
Many factors can affect that; your energy levels, your health that day, climate etc but the most probable is that you were working in too high a heart rate and it wasn't sustainable beyond 20 minutes.
Several things you can do here. You could stick with the current intensity (heart rate) and break up the workout into intervals gradually increasing the work time and decreasing the rest time. This will probably get you to the 30 minutes within the next 4 weeks.
Alternatively you can do the whole 30 minutes at a lower heart rate that is sustainable for the whole workout. You'll find that as you increase your aerobic capacity your pace will increase over time, still at this heart rate.0 -

You are right! My pace was high. I did over 3 miles on the elliptical and then I just jumped into the express workout area. I usually do either 30 min cardio or 30 min express workout, today was the 1st day I tried to do both in the same day.0 -
Sometimes you just have a crappy workout! But hey, a crappy workout is better than none at all. It could be literally any number of things; going out too fast, not having enough fuel, being bored senseless...anything!
Let it go, and know that 20 minutes is better than nothing.0
