Doing Insanity....I made it through the first month, with no real major changes....but man I was looking forward to month 2, then started noticing that my ankle was achy....then it would swell a little, so I put it off as "water protecting muscle" blah blah blah....
I finally had to go to the Dr, as my knee started hurting, then i would get this shot down my leg when I took a deep breath.
I have sprained my ankle, which in turn made me walk with a limp and bothered my knee. Somewhere in the exercises you do in month 1, I seemed to have inflamed a butt or back muscle and when I breath in, it is hitting the sciatic nerve and that's the shooting electrical feeling I get in my knee and ankle.
So...no more Insanity for me. Per Dr's orders I am to lay off for a week then find low impact exercises. How is Jillian Michaels 30 day shred? That's sitting on the fridge...is that low impact? I'd rather work with weights anyway.....
this sucks...

Ain't gonna lie. That does suck *hugs*
I don't know much about the workout DVDs but lots of other people here do and they will surely chime in for you.
I will say that you can modify just about anything to make it low impact. Make sure you convince yourself that it's okay and very important to modify while you recover.0 -
I found 30DS to be killer! I injured my shoulder doing it and stopped around day 4. I would say walking or biking would be low impact. It's frustrating when an injury interrupts your mojo! Hang in there and let your body heal.0

She has you doing lots of jumping jacks....don't think that would be good for the ankle! Feel better soon!!!!0

Yipes. That's not good. Do you have access to a pool? That might be pretty low impact. Did he say light walking was ok once you took a short break?
You'll want to follow the docs directions.0 -
Do you have access to a stationary bike? That was the only cardio I was allowed to do at first when I sprained my ankle. Swimming is a great choice too. Walking is pretty low impact, and ellipticals can be low impact too, but swimming and the stationary bike really are the best for keeping all pressure off your ankle.
Honestly, it sounds like you've been pushing beyond your limits. If you're relatively new to exercises, your joints and tendons acclimate much more slowly than your muscles and your cardiovascular system. It sounds to me like you need to back off the intensity and ease yourself in to such hardcore workouts as you've been doing.
ETA: joint swelling is NOT the same thing as muscle swelling. Joint swelling should always be treated with kid gloves: stop and figure out what's going on.0 -
Thanks gals...I do appreciate it!!! We're heading to Chicago for 4 days for leakycon, so I know I'll be doing a lot of walking but I brought a brace to help out.
I have an elliptical and a small pool so I'll start with those first. It just sucks because I was so ready to go...but you guys and the Dr is right, it's better to stop and heal now, instead of having no choice but to stop if I keep going, because I really hurt myself.
So, I'll have to watch what I eat, and just log that into the diary, and walk away. Thanks!
