I threw my back out!

I really hurt my lower back on a yoga ball about 3 mo ago, and now it seizes up every once in a while, for no reason. It lasts about 4-5 days, during which I can't work out. I went to the chiropracter the first time, but I can't afford to keep going all the time, I want to solve the original problem, not just treat the symptoms. Does anyone know of some gentle stretches, or mild calisthenics that can help strengthen the lower back muscles, to help preempt another incident? Any tips would help, thanks!

Someone told me recently that a lot of back pain is related to the hamstrings and making sure you really stretch them good before, after (and even during) workouts helps a lot toward preventing injuries.

Not sure if that relates to your situation so much...but its helpful to know, and its working for me (had a lot of lower back pain about two weeks ago and extra stretching did the trick to relieve it).

I agree with stretching the hamstrings and I'd add doing some planks to strengthen your entire core and help prevent this from happening again
