A nut above the rest??

Are all nuts created equal or are some better than others?

I eat walnuts and almonds to help with the fat intake when I need. Coupled together they're offer balanced unsaturated fat. 5-10 almonds, 3-4 walnuts at most.

Just make sure that you portion out yourself a serving. Then put the bag/jar/can away!!! I know that I can eat a whole bag of almonds in a little bit if I let myself (they are soo yummy)

Nuts are a decent snack, but they are indeed high in calories (mainly due to the fat content).

Different nuts have different ratios of fat and protein. In this regard, they are not created equal. Additionally, many times they are salted, which packs on the sodium.

Whole, raw, unsalted nuts as a snack is your best option.

    Yea!

I recommend the "eat more nuts" diet to all my friends!!
  • How many ounces or grams of nuts would you say is recommended per sitting or day for a fairly active lilfestyle?
  • A handful of whole natural- no salt almonds is always a GREAT snack!
I usually try to put my whole almonds in my oatmeal- adds some texture and good fats.

I personally love almonds and pistachios. I find that their fat/protein ratios fit the best into my normal daily macros.

95% of the time I eat almonds though, simply because pistachios tend to be pricier. I usually buy unsalted, roasted almonds in bulk for $3.99-$4.99/lb and then I portion out a 20g serving for myself each day.

I have about half an ounce of walnuts in my oatmeal about 3 days a week. Banana, walnuts, and cocoa are YUMMY in oatmeal!

I love pistachios--you get a lot of nuts in a 1 oz. serving.
  • Almonds work best for me.
