wedding eating

Tomorrow my husband and I are attending a wedding. I have been able to control everything I have put i my mouth calories wise for the last three weeks. I knew what was in everything i put in my body calorie and nutrition wise. with a wedding I feel a little helpless....no nutrition facts no portion control. Im not really sure how to keep control of the situation so i dont back track. I was planning on not drinking to atleast control that but food wise im not sure....plus my husbands in the wedding party and i will know NOONE at this wedding so the only thing i really have to do to keep me entertained during the reception IS eat........Advice?

Going out can be scary at first. Think about this it takes 3000 calories to gain a pound. You can not avoid social situations. Before you go decide if you are or are not going over your calories for the day , in that way YOU are in control. Bring gum that way your mouth is busy. Most important enjoy yourself, it is just one meal ......

You could call the hall and ask them what they are serving. That way you can preplan. And stay away from the bread bowl! You can eat 3 buns before you know it if there is no one to talk to! (or even if there is! Hhaha) also stay away from mixed drinks unless it is with water. My fav is vodka water, lemon, lime. Bar lime is loaded with sugar so be sure to ask for real lemon and lime. And have fun! Dancing burns a lot of calories!

Relax.. its one day. Its ok to splurge. Also, usually weddings have fish, chicken or steak.. all are healthy choices. If you want, scrap off anything its topped with. Try to get as much veggies as you can and maybe stay away from the cake (although i wouldnt). Try to limit appitizers unless there is a fruit and veggie spread. Many appetizers are fried or loaded to salt.

I know how eating things you don't know the calories of can cause anxiety, but it gets easier. I used to cry when I had to eat out (yes, sad, I know). Eat lots of veggies, they are low in calories and filling. Eat some protein, salad, everything else eat small portions. Avoid alcohol and have just a couple bites of cake. But enjoy yourself!! It's a wedding for goodness sake!

So I have tried these situations many times over the years, and to be perfectly honest, I am only happy with my self when I eat within my calories. it's ok to drink seltzer water with lime at a wedding. It's ok to plan to eat a piece of cake and lay off carbs and fruit that day and use those calories as cake calories for one meal on one day.

Since your husband is in the wedding, and if the wedding isn't "stuffy" you could use this an excuse to take lots of pictures - if your hands are busy taking pictures, then you can't use them to eat...

Eat a healthy snack before you go. You might even want to take some cut veggies with you. Go ahead and eat what you might be craving...just keep the portion small.
  • One meal, one day won't make or break you. Make sure you eat normally that day so you're not starving, get a workout in, be mindful of the alcohol and DANCE and make friends!

Don't worry so much, you didn't gain your weight in a day so one bad day won't make you gain it all back!

Eat lighter the morning of but have a snack before the reception so you're not walking in starving. Go easy on the dressing for your salad or skip it altogether, if it's buffet load your plate up with veggies and pick small portions of the other stuff. Don't be afraid of drinks too, you can have a glass of wine for about 100 calories.

Dance! An hour of dancing can burn 300-500 calories. You can easily burn off some cake calories on the dance floor :)

Track the best you can and if your over just do an extra workout or cut your calories a bit tomorrow to make up for it. Just stay off the scale for a few days because food like that tends to be extra salty so it'll take and extra few days of chugging water to flush it out of your system and not get a crazy number on the scale.

    Have fun!!

Not knowing any one is the perfect opportunity to meet some new and interesting people. Weddings usually offer free pop and water and the best part is there is usually a dance. Dancing burns a lot of calories. If wedding cake is your thing--have some--enjoy it! If you could care less about cake--leave it---cake is full of calories. As for the meal, enjoy it. Skipping the butter on your dinner roll reduces calories and being REALLY mindful about salad dressings saves calories. It is only one meal, it's not going to ruin you and typically the plates are pre measured for servings unless it is a buffet. If you taste something and you don't feel it is exceptional--don't eat it--leave it. Chew slowly and talk to the others at your table and you feel full before you know it. Bring your camera---take lots of photos to share with the new bride & groom. You can't eat and take pictures at the same time. Most of all--enjoy yourself.

I know exactly what you mean! In weightless attempts in the past a wedding would be enough to completely derail me because I'd starve myself all day and swear I would only have veggies and then go crazy cause I was so hungry! You're going in with a plan and you're going to do amazing and have a blast!!
