Neck Pain and Pillows

I need some good suggestions for a pillow. I swear I go through pillows like no other. A new one every few weeks. I think I have a really heavy head. Haha! I have tried everything, soft to extra firm, memory foam, many, many brands. Nothing works for more than a few weeks and then it is back to waking up every morning in pain. Anyone really love the pillow they use?

Amen to this. I think once about every two months I wake up not able to turn my head.
    Who has solved this issue?

Well, I have neck problems that started last year. The first thing they tell you is to NOT use a memory foam. Of course, I use a memory foam. Also, don't sleep with your arm under your pillow because it puts your neck in a very bad position. And if you are really motivated, you can buy a neck roll.

    anyone tried tempur-Pedic?

Yes, I have a tempurpedic bed and pillow. The first thing my physical therapist told me was this was the worst type of pillow for neck pain. I still use it but I use a neck roll when possible. It helps.

YES. I bought a Sterns and foster bed and got them to give me the temper pedic pillows instead of the bed bundle. This whole time I thought it was my bed that I hated and then I switched pillows. I bought some pillows from walmart and now I sleep like a baby. I HATE the tempur pedic pillows. They seem to hold you head up in the air and in my opinion.. suck.

I was in a car accident many years ago and due to that i had some issues with my neck, I started taking Vitamin B6 for my inflammed joints and carpnal tunnel and not only did it help those tremendously it also seems to have helped my neck feel a lot better. You can give that a try to see if it helps only 50 mg a day and they aren't expensive, only around $5.00 a bottle

I use a Tempurpedic pillow and find that it does help my neck. The only thing I don't like about it is it's a little firm for me; I like my pillows down-filled and really soft & squishy. So I usually sleep with an old squishy down pillow on top of the Tempurpedic pillow.

I use a contoured pillow and it really supports my neck. They are not the cheapest but are worth every penny.

I hope you find a solution as a pain in the neck is no fun.

Interesting; I don't think I've ever heard of B6 as being useful for joints (usually it's glucosamine and chondroitin I hear about). I have had at least 4 prior neck injuries and have joint problems throughout almost my entire body because of hypermobility. I'll pick up some B6 this weekend and give it a try! Thanks for the rec!

There are also stretches you can do in the morning to help with the pain. The door stretch is a great one. Hard to explain but you hold the sides of an open doorway and step forward. Hold for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times.

I tried the glusosmine and nearly choked on those things and they didn't help me at all, my co-worker told me to take B6 for my carpnal tunnel and when I did it also clearned up my inflammed joints along with the carpnal tunnel. I take this faithfully every day

One word - Sobakawa - I had horrrrrrrible neck pains from off the shelf pillows, no matter what I bought. My wife got me a little Sobakawa pillow for xmas last year. Holy tar and feathers Batman! This thing is amazing! You see them on TV all the time. They are worth it. I do plan to replace all the pillows in my house with these things. Such a truly good pillow. Oh plus work your neck more if you're having that much pain with it.

I so understand this! i have been through so many many many pillows. Went into an Art Van just for something to do and walked out with three of these pillows. I am a stomach sleeper mostly. they had the same brand for all types of sleepers but i like the flattest one. Bedgear dri tec.... you can go to www.bedgear.com to check them out. Cost was around 40.00 but so worth it and i would buy this again when i get this one all worn out.

Ever sleep in a hotel bed where you just absolutely loved the pillows?!!! Happened to me several years back as I stayed at two different Westin's during business travel about a month apart. Used to have similar issues but absolutely love my Pacific Coast pillows. They supply many of the major hotel chains with their pillows and other bedding. They used to have a link on their page where you could look up exactly what was on the bed but that's not there any longer. You get what you pay for as well but I only buy these. My personal preference is the Hotel Collection Touch of Down Pillow. 30 night full refund if you don't like them!!

I had the same issue thinking it was my pillow that was causing pain from my shoulder blade all the way up the back of my neck. I got our Physical Therapist at work to adjust me (like a Chiropractor) and since then the pain is gone.
