1. train myself to eat slower
2. eat the proper portions
when my dad was alive we only had a few minuets to eat our food my dad was always in a hurry. said he would wait with the car running. I know that was a learned behavior now that he's gone I can undo that bad habit. should I do this first and then work on portions. I do mini goals it is much easier for me this way.

There is no reason you can't do both. Use a smaller plate, like a salad plate for instance, this will make your portions appear bigger. Read the food labels and determine what one portion size is (buy cheap measuring spoons and cups and invest in a food scale)
Make eating a ritual. Don't sit in your car or in front of the TV. Actually sit down, enjoy the taste of your food. It usually takes your body 20 minutes to realize it's full. You can even buy cool plates, bowls, and table cloths and make eating a fun experience.
Just remember, small steps are always best when starting out. Any change you make for the better gets you closer to your goal.
I wish you the best of luck!0 -
