Any other tasty ideas besides mayo?

Hey MFP Community....

I love mayo but do not love the bad stuff that goes with it (calories, fat and how it wouldn't sit well in the salads I make during the summer...yuck). I also can't do dairy (skin breaks out).

Now that I'm on MFP...I'm more mindful of my food and caloric intake. Any suggestions on what dairy/lactose-free condiment and/or food item I can use in my egg, tuna and chicken salads?

I guess I can use the low fat mayo but am hoping some suggestions on how to make the above referenced salads tastier and enjoyable without the guilty pleasure of the mayo.

:frown:

Plain Greek yogurt. I use this in place of mayo and sour cream in my chicken/egg/tuna salads.

Occasionally when I want something to dunk my hard-boiled eggs in, I mix 1 tsp of sweet BBQ sauce with 1 tbsp of plain Greek yogurt.

Another dressing I made last weekend for my cherry tomatoes/baby spinach salad:

1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
    Juice from half a lemon
    1 tsp ground black pepper
    1 tsp ground basil
    1 tsp ground oregano
    1 tsp ground orange peel
    1 tsp garlic powder

A little bit of olive oil with virtually anything mixed into it to make it spread nicely is great.
Here are some items I usualy use:
    - Avocado
    - Crushed kale
    - Crushed basil
    - Blended mushrooms

Here are some items I usualy use, one at a time, depending how thick I want the sauce/what flavor I want:

My main go to in egg, tuna, or chicken salad is a reduced fat sour cream. Daisy and Lilly make really good ones with all natural ingredients.

Sometimes I'll use some sour cream and 1oz of mashed up avocado for some extra flavor, fat, and creaminess.

    Occasionally I'll use cream cheese.

But I always add sriracha. :D

    Hey all...

    Thanks for the suggestions....

I edited my initial post to reference and mention that I'm lactose intolerant and am looking for dairy/lactose-free ideas...

    Keep them coming!!!

I love vegenaise. Was introduced to it a few years back and always have it on hand. It's in the or close to the veggie section of the store. Has to remain refrigerated.

This may sound a little weird, but have you tried Tzatziki sauce instead? It's 18 calories per tbs vs. around 40 calories per tbs for low fat mayo.
I find it around the cheese aisle or where the hummus is located.

ETA: Just noticed your issue with lactose :/

    Elen,

Thanks for the reply...I'll definitely try the ingredients you used for your salad.

I did amend my inital post to read that the suggestions I was looking for need to be dairy/lactose-free. :ohwell:

    Thanks!!

If I am being really good I make up a basic dressing with either red or white wine vinegar a little lemon juice and herbs. You could add a little olive oil to this if you have the calories to spare. Basic but effective.

At my grocery store, I just noticed something called sandwich spread. It even says "Move over Mayo!" on the label. They have several different flavors... The ones I remember are roasted pepper/chipotle and pepperoncini/feta cheese. I'm sure you couldn't do the one with feta cheese in it, but if I remember correctly, they have several flavors. In my store, they're in the aisle with the pickles, banana peppers, etc.

When I make tuna, I substitute half of the Mayo I would typically use with dijon mustard.
