Giving this a try...

Hello. Well, I guess the reason I'm trying this is that me and my husband just got memborships to the local YMCA and I figured might as well use it!
We are both overweight by about 50 lbs and want to do something about it.
Yesterday we went to the Y for the first time and it was pretty nice. Was there for 2 hours and I was sweaty and nasty afterwords, but I felt pretty good.
I figure counting calories is my next step. I think a big problem is that I don't stop eating when I'm full. Like most people, we're programmed to "Finish your plate!" before we can go out and play....So, if I can keep a better track of that, probably be helpful.
Also, I work at a bank. So, I'm on my bum all day! I swear I've put on that 50 pounds I want to lose just the last two years that I've worked here!
So, here's hoping to start of some good changes.

If you look it up, plate sizes have increased over time, as have our waist lines.... USE A SMALLER PLATE!
Edited to add: Yup, i just typed in 'plate size increase over past years' in Google and clicked it to show images... 9.5 inch plate in 1960 compared to 12 inch plate now......0 -
I understand about the gaining weight from working on your bum!! IT SUCKS! AND, those days where we have NOTHING to do, like today, make it worse because I then go home, sit for a minute and then dont want to get moving. I cant say it is conserving energy because I think it takes more energy to get moving after a day like that.
GOOD LUCK!! Tracking is difficult, especially figuring out the portion sizes you have had.
We will all get there with some extra work and push from ourselves! WE CAN DO IT!!!!0 -
welcome.i remember that old saying..i also remember people in china are starving0

I'm a fellow banker so I know all about sitting on my bum all day. I just got back from vacation and I'm finding out that being at work somewhat bored all day is making me thinking of food. I have been starving but when I'm home I almost have to make myself eat. And I try to stay busy at work but sometimes it's just too boring. You can add me as a friend if you want. I would be happy to lend support.0
