Help reducing sugar

Hi, I only recently started using MFP and seem to not go over all the targets (or below) except for sugar intake. I usually eat cereal for breakfast, wrap or bagel for lunch and mostly low fat ready meals for dinner. For snacks mostly fruit and maybe another wrap or bagel round 9ish. Anyone have any tips to reduce sugar levels? (sorry for being a complete newbie on this)

that sounds like way too many carbs and those bread products will have a lot of sugar in them, even if they don't taste sweet. cut down on your carbs, add more protein, and eat more fat! FAT WILL NOT MAKE YOU FAT. it will help keep you full and reduce cravings for other types of foods.

Hide the sugar tracker. Track carbs instead. Pretty much everyone says that the MFP sugar guidelines are set WAY too low.
HOnestly, it sounds like your diet is rather carb heavy. Try keeping your carbs under 150-200g per day.0 -
About that cereal... Is it a high fiber, low sugar one? How is your portion size? It's easy to add up on sugar on regular breakfast cereals without measuring portions.
ETA: If your using the default MFP goals, take that sugar goal as the added sugar maximum from junk(ish) food. Sugar from fruits are well packaged thanks to the fiber and micronutrient content in fruits. However most fruits are high in sugars and you still need to make sure you don't exceed your caloric total thanks to them. For example, have a banana but don't eat 2 if you're stretching your goals, instead eat a handful of berries.0 -
I agree with what the others said about you being very carb-heavy. Cut back on those and switch to whole grains as much as possible. Also, keep in mind that those low-fat frozen dinners/ready meals have to get their flavor from somewhere when they cut the fat out, so they tend to be heavy on sugars/carbs and sodium. Fresh is best! Even if you're not a cook, it's pretty easy to learn how to make boneless/skinless chicken breast and steamed veggies.0

technically, you're supposed to only have 1 teaspoon a day. and/or according to the american heart association, 5 teaspoons. i'm low carb and barely go over 5 grams (1 tsp) sometimes. definitly lower your carb intake for less sugar.

Thanks for your replies!
@xarge i usually have a big bowl of bran flakes but no sugar. What you all say makes perfect sense in too many carbs. I think I was trying to focus more on low fat rather than carbs. Iv always had cravings for white bread anyway and have cut out white bread totally but need to switch to whole grains. I am going to try and cook more as haven't heard many positive feedback about the low fat ready made meals.
Thanks again for your feedback!0 -

Is there a medical reason you're cutting back on fats? Plenty of unsaturated fatty acids are essential for the body. Low fat is the worst diet approach and ironically there are many people very successful in low carb high fat (LCHF) diets here. Not me, I dread the thought of going that low on carbs.0 -
No medical reason, just think its time to lose weight. To be honest I'm not that clued up on what diets work and don't (as you can prob tell ). I've already cut down on the carbs a lot in 3 days so will try and keep that up. Really finding the app helpful though!0
