Protein powder...?

Okay, so my mom fell into the whole Body by Vi fad. She stopped making the shakes, and the powder hasn't been going to any use. Today I decided to look at it, and it's 90 calories and 12 grams of protein per serving. My trainer recommended to me to starting making protein shakes after work outs, so I guess my question is, would this be suitable for protein shakes? I don't know a lot about powders and the differences between them, so I'm wondering if I can save myself $20+ and just use the Body by Vi powder?
Any input at all is appreciated! :flowerforyou:

I know that for guys it's recommended to take in 1 to 1.5 grams of protein per lean lbs. of body weight for the entire day. For women however it's a bit less (at least per what's around online) "female strength athletes may need .7 to .8 g per pound of body weight."

Post workout protein intake is very important as they say that this is when the body can absorb the most amount of nutrients in protein (very helpful in recovery). So the protein shakes that you have now would be good enough except I know that there are "faster absorbing" proteins (whey isolate) available out there. Your post-workout shake should be higher in protein than just 12 grams though. I would use the shake since it's better than nothing but be careful .... as 2 servings (24 grams) would bring up the calories to 180. In comparison the protein shake I take(Dymatize Elite Whey Isolate) is 24 grams of protein for one serving and it's only 117 calories. Hope this helps and feel free to ask for help if I've confused you more ! lol0 -
Also to ad... Unless you're going hardcore weight lifting ... I wouldn't worry to much about this (getting high doses of protein). I guess perhaps I'm still thinking more like a "guy" and what I currently try to follow.0

The protein powder I take (Body Fortress) is double the calories and double the protein of yours in a 34g scoop, and I think mine pretty standard for protein powders. If anything, you could just use two servings instead of one, but if the serving size is large, that might be really nasty...0

It wouldn't be horrible to double it, but I'm not sure I want that many calories just from a protein shake. I'm not doing any hardcore lifting, but my trainer does have me doing a lot and she said protein powder would help. I'm already getting a TON of protein as is, so I'm not sure what to do lol.0
