Kettlebell DVD

Can anyone recommend a good kettlebell dvd? I'm looking for a workout that is less than 30 mins. Also what weight would you recommend starting with. I've never done it before but fancy giving it a go.

Thanks everyone.

Try searching on Amazon and read the reviews. Also make sure you study and learn the form correctly. The DVD you chose may recommend a weight to start with.

I have several kettleworx DVDs. I found they do 10 minutes and go back and repeat. It is quite a workout and the turbo charge really raised your heart rate and was too much for me.
  • I'm VERY skeptical about KB DVD's. I'm no pro, but my bf is a KB instructor and so, I just know a little bit about them. But one thing I can tell you is to PLEASE make sure you work on your form BEFORE doing anything. My BF had me do wall squats to start off, making sure my knee's didn't touch the wall and that I was putting my butt out, not letting my knee's go past my feet, etc. If kettleworx is a good program (nothing beats having an acutaly KB instuctor though) try it, but practice form for a few days BEFORE doing anything.

I started with an 18, but I see a lot of people start with 10. You can just try the smallest weight until you feel comfortable enough to move up. I ended up using a 35 about 3 months in. Also, since there are different manufacturers, weights won't go up in the same order. I used dragondoor to get mine. Good luck!

Be careful with the KettleWorx DVDs... I have them as well and used them religiously about a year or two ago. The only real issue that I have with them is that their editing department should be fired. You will have to keep count of all of the workouts for both sides because they are HEAVILY UNEVEN. You will do 10 on one side and like 3 on the other.

One set of KettleBell DVDs I was told about but haven't checked out myself is called RKS. One of my friends swears by it and loves the results. I haven't gotten around to purchasing that one as I am on DDPYoga right now.

    Hope this helps some!

My husband and I use kettleworx, with Ryan Shanahan. I agree with danwood2, they definitely are uneven on some of the reps, but we counter this by switching and doing the opposite arm on the 2nd set. Enjoy and good luck! Turbo charge!

I like Bob Harper's Kettlebell Cardio Shred but I do agree with everyone about being really careful with your form. Bob does take some time to go over form, but it's always better safe than sorry and I already had pretty good awareness of my own body mechanics. Even so, I've had to especially watch it with my shoulders and back. I have read reviews of Jillian Michael's kettlebell DVD indicating she does NOT really demonstrate good form, so I've stayed away from that one.

I started with a 12lb kettlebell and could now probably move up to 15lbs for at least some of the exercises. I would think 10-12lbs would be OK to start if you have some experience with regular dumbbells and sort of a baseline of physical fitness. If you've really not done any weight training before, 8lbs might be better.

ETA: the Bob Harper DVD is actually 45 min long, but I often only do the first 30 minutes if that's all I've got time for. Still a pretty good workout.

Lauren Brookes is RKC certified, explains and demonstrates really well the basic moves. She recommends a starting weight for most women of 15lbs. DVD's avail on Amazon. She has a 12 min and a 40min work out on one DVD. Very Effective, I can now finally do 1 12 min work out, and am just starting to be able to do a 2nd 12 min work out.
