in need of encouragement during the Ramadan times

Hi...my name is Narita, I'm 34 years old and have 3 kids (7, 6 and 2) and I've been recommended to use myfitnesspal.com from my brother who lost nearly 50lbs within a short period of time. Is it harder for women than men to lose weight???? I believe so, for me it is!

Its been hard to track my food during Ramadan, since I only eat @ 4am and 8pm, so not in daylight hours. And running around with 3 kids when one of them in a toddler is hard for me to find time for gym. I haven't been weighing myself for a week and haven't been tracking my food since Ramadan started (22 days ago).

I only have 1 problem! When I'm stressed, bored, and upset...I EAT (snacking, munching, etc.) although it has been cut down a whole lot with my little brother diet plan (eat every 2 hrs and snack 100 calories or less in between).

Looking for more sisters to add to my friends list for more motivation :blushing:

Try to find something else to do when you're stressed or bored, another way to relax. You can refrain from eating when you're fasting, so you can refrain from snacking at other times.

Make sure that you're getting all the nutrition your body needs from your meals though, because if you're not then you get hungry and start reaching for unplanned snacks.

Not having unhealthy foods in the house is another way to avoid unplanned snacking on them.

It is kind of harder for women to lose fat, basically the smaller you are the fewer calories you need, so the easier it is to overeat. Men are on average bigger than women and so on average will be able to eat more calories and still lose weight. However you can still get slow and steady fat loss without going hungry or feeling deprived, with good portion control and healthy foods.

I ain't a sister but I know a few Muslims. What they do to lose weight is have a huge sahoor (spelling?) and a small iftar (spelling again?). They also work out after iftar every day. Don't have a big break fast meal or else you won't want to work out. Best of luck!

Don't give up the fight. While I don't know about the fasting, (I get way too grumpy, light headed, and down right ill if I don't eat regularly) I would caution you to eat more than the 2 times a day you are eating. I understand you cannot eat during the daylight hours, so make sure you are eating more between the 8pm and 4am times. Try adding at least one more snack into that time frame. There's no way you are consuming enough calories in those two times unless you are eating really unhealthy foods. And, make sure you are hydrating while the sun is down...dehydration can cause you not to lose weight (among other things)

In answer to your men vs women question...Yes, typically it is harder for women to lose weight than men. Men have more muscle mass than women (typically). Muscle burns more calories than fat, which then puts us at a disadvantage from the start. Women also tend to hold on to weight in the hips and tummy area for child birthing (silly bodies).

When you find yourself heading to the food cabinet for stress relief or sheer boredom ... go for a walk...go play with the kids...go brush your teeth. (most things taste horrid after toothpaste). Drink water...lots of it...it will make you feel full.

    Hope this helps
