High Protein Diet

Trying to keep to my new diet plan 40/40/20 ratio. OMG so hard to stay under my carbs and get my proteins up! I am over already. Does anyone have any suggestion for a high protein diet besides having to drink a million protein shakes a day?

I use ViSalus shake mix and i put it in a lot of things besides shakes. It tastes like cake batter, so I put it in my pancakes (makes a killer protein pancake!), waffles, a no-bake protein cookie, etc. The easiest thing for me is to mix it with OJ in a shaker cup during the day. It tastes like an Orange Julius - remember those??? Anyway, lots you can do with it besides actual shakes. Also, I used K20 protein water in the past. It has a good amount of protein and fiber.0

hmm maybe i will try that shake. I currently use the GNC Whey and GNC Refeed Casein. They Whey is ok. The casein - ugh with a side of ugh.0

What types of foods are you eating now?
You may just need to swap some stuff out. Are your carbs coming from bad or good foods?
I would just try to eat real foods and avoid shakes and microwave heat up meals. I gets tons of protein from beans and eggs.0 -

As for as protein shakes go, you can get creative.
1. 1 scoop protein shake mix, half can pumpkin pie filling, add milk/water and cinnimon to taste. You have a new tasty protein treat.
2. 1 scoop protein shake mix in a bowl, add peanutbutter (I prefer Nutella), oats and milk/water. Then lay them out on ice cube trays or the like. After they are frozen you have homemade, cheap and protein dense Protein Bars made to your liking.

My diary today is not the greatest - but generally i try to eat every 1 1/2 hours or so - usually oatmeal for breakfast, a fruit for am snack one, a hardboiled egg for am snack two. Lunch i sometimes have to compromise with a heat up thing if i cant get out of the office or a sandwich or something like that, pm snacks - peanut butter and sandwich thin, carrots & hummus. fish or meat for dinner - a protein shake in there somewhere.
I still cant seem to get enough protein. I thought i was doign well until i changed my settings on this - but it still shows i am lacking.0 -

I struggled getting enough protein too! Even with foods like greek yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, chicken, turkey ect in my diet I couldn't hit my goals (I'm not a big meat eater, no beef or pork yuck, don't care for fish that much either except tuna). I finally starting usually protein powder once a day (along with the before mentioned foods). I get Walmart Body Fortress Whey...the strawberry flavor is yummy, mixes well and is good even in just a glass of water (cheap too)!!0

I didn't see chicken anywhere. I eat low carb high protein every day for the most part (outside of fruits and veggies). I eat a lot of chicken, tuna, eggs, some red lean red meat here and there when I want a treat. Then, yes, 3+ protein shakes a day. I mix it up between chocolate with water as well as vanilla in orange or red G2.0

Well - yep! True true. Just didn't see it by name. I eat a ton of it too. I also like some lean pork, cut the fat off the ends. It's good for a change up once a week or so!0 -

Yeah not even gonna lie, I dig pork. I only get to it once or twice a month. It's a dirty protein.0 -
Venison is a great lean meat and hunting season is coming soon so you can get a freezer full for free. Then of course you can get into all the protein veggies such as lentils, beans and the like. I have not yet gone that route so I am more unfamiliar with it.0

Same here. I'm on 40/40/20 and that's like 200 grams of protein. It's a rare day when I can hit 100.0

Almonds, turkey jerky, cheese is my go to. Broiled shrimp or Shrimp Ceviche (google Ecuadorian Shrimp Ceviche recipe) is a staple. I stay under 30g carb per day.0

Lean meats, legumes (nuts), egg white, turkey, chicken, fish, tuna, even beef jerky just the regular lean kind is a great snack, black beans. Nuts and tuna have good fats in them so dont worry to much about their fat content.
complex carbs like whole wheat grains are good carbs and your body needs those but not to many. Stay away from enriched flour aka white breads. Skip white rice go with brown rice.
Add in filler vegetables like lettuce, onions, tomatoes, celerey, and fruits like apples.
I dont worry about sugars but I stay away from sugary foods cause there is sugar in EVERYTHING now days and you wont have a problem hitting the total for that.0 -
My problem is the sodium that goes along with a lot of the protein I like. Cheese and cottage cheese are loaded with it. I've tried the no salt added cottage cheese and didn't like it at all. Chicken and eggs have sodium. Obviously, deli lean meats do too. Any low (or no) sodium ideas? Thanks!0

lots of eggs, meat, fish, poultry.
Nuts in moderation. A high-quality dark, dark chocolate. There's even a decent amount in leafy greens.
Cheeses, yogurts, diary.
Make sure you are getting plenty of fat with that protein (do some searching on "rabbit starvation"). Too much lean protein without plenty of fat isn't healthy.
There is no need for 40% of your diet to come from protein. The body can only use so much (it can't store excess dietary protein but does keep an amino acid reserve). Eat 1g per pound of lean body weight (for me that's 90g). And it will also use protein for glucose. BUT - once that part is taken care of (this is only if the body needs glucose at the time and you haven't consumed any) but the rest is converted to fat. Might as well eat the fat.
I'm sorry but the quality of protein in grains (which is incomplete) and legumes (this will give you the amino acid that grains do not contain) doesn't come close to the quality of the protein in animal foods. Get your protein through animal foods. (You have to eat like 4 bowls of oatmeal to get the same amount of protein as 4oz of steak. And the steak contains complete protein.) I'll take the steak - preferrably with a chunk of butter or blue cheese on it!!0 -

Salt isn't bad for you (even if it's genetic there has got to be a defining mechansim that "turns the gene on"). Carbohydrates cause the kidneys to retain sodium (my guess would be refined but I pretty much treat all carbs the same). The body "balances" itself out by retaining water. Then blood pressure rises and you get hypertension (google fructose induced hypertension).
I have to ensure I get ENOUGH salt in my diet. I load all up with salt.

Am not sure where you are in the world? But corned beef here in the UK is high in protein, low in everything else and yummy. Along with lean bacon...as well as all the regular chicken/fish/egg type stuff.
I am always well over on protein, it isn`t too hard if you put your mind to it0 -
Cottage cheese, egg whites, peanut butter, greek yogurt, lean meat (turkey deli meat is good). I'm usually over my protein goal--feel free to take a look at my diary. (I don't drink any shakes, ever. I like to chew my calories.)0

Supplementing your chicken, eggs, cottage cheese, fish etc with a couple of protein shakes uring the day is the best way to attaining that 40%. I'm bulking an I can tell you that even I find it a bit of a challenge! Lay off the carbs after your 5th meal or at diner too.0

Lean meats, fish, tuna, eggs, nuts, cheese, greek yogurt, oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice, kale, leafy veggies! Eat them like a job! I had trouble getting my recommended protein and I dissected my diet and added these in!0
