Based entirely on this comment alone, I'm putting you on my ignore list.
Nothing personal...but I have principles.0 -

Please don't. Caloriewise you won't save anything. And margarine isn't any healthier than butter (some, including myself, would argue it's less so). Butter is where it's at.0 -
"kortney, how much butter do you use making candy for Christmas?"
ten pounds. TEN POUNDS OF BUTTER. And you know what?? People wait all year for my candies. It's the holidays, FFS.
Got any recipes you care to share? I'm just getting into making candy and finally got over my fear of hot caramel
And I agree...enjoy days like thanksgiving and get back on your calorie goals after. I spend nearly every thanksgiving in the south with family who REALLY know how to cook and ear. I will be eating lots of tasty, calorie laden, fatty and amazing foods and loving every moment of it. Then I'll get back to my raw veggies, whole grains, etc0 -
Ah, so the MFP thanksgiving freakout starts early this year
lol.
reminds me what one of my friends here said once.
"too many people are worried about what to eat between thanksgiving and christmas, when they should be worried about what they should eat between christmas and thanksgiving."
Love this0 -
Ah crap now you got me thinkin about it!:ohwell: I would say substitution is our best bet! Margarine, olive oil depending on what your making. My husband and I agree that we are going to be as healthy as possible about it!0

B U T T E R Your rite, can't be thanks giving with out Butter. take a break and enjoy special days when all your special people are around. You have the rest of the year to worry about it.0 -
I suggest chicken broth and veg. broth in place of butter in some places. In other places you probably have to just go for it - or try out some new recipes that have no or little butter. Sweet potatoes are great with cinamon and little else, or other spices perhaps. Try new veggies? Or how about some kind of squash bake with loads of spices or herbs instead of butter.0

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two days a year where my goal is to eat EVERYTHING! lol0
-
Wait, were you feeding 25 last year as well? Averaging out to about 2.5T of butter per person for all the food? If so, I think 8 sticks is reasonable.
I thought you were talking about a gathering of 8 or something. I can just imagine everybody tucking into their very own sticks of butter. mmmmmm0 -

great quote...i may have to steal that when people start talking to me about how they are going to deal with holiday eating0 -
I don't use milk or butter in my mashed potatoes... just light sour cream and some seasonings, and they are amazing
Other than that I don't know... but its Thanksgiving. lol Thanksgiving would def fall in the "cheat day" category0 -
I am going to pretend that I didn't read this thread because I refuse to acknowledge that summer is nearing its close.0

if it's thanksgiving and it ain't rich food, then whoever made it can die in a fire.
gravy from the drippings or GTFO!
Agreed! I make all my holiday food the southern way, butter and gravy. I only control my portions, this allows me to enjoy thanksgiving dishes for a week or more.0
