Don't feel right after protein shake -- anyone else?

I was wondering if any of you who use protein shakes have experienced this?

I drink the protein shake (I'm using Muscle Milk in chocolate) and no matter whether:

--it's a half scoop or a full scoop
--it's mixed with water, milk, or milk-substitute
--it's before or after exercise, or even before bed

after about 20 minutes I start to feel hot and clammy, almost like that feeling before you faint? It lasts for about ten minutes and then it goes away. There are no other problems -- no digestive issues, no nausea, etc., and I'm not allergic to anything in it, as far as I can tell.

Has anyone else experienced this, or something similar? Any guesses what it could be?

maybe try a new protein powder, I have never heard of this happen to anyone I know... I have some food allergies but they always last more then 20 minutes
  • That happened to me the first time I tried a protein shake. After that I was fine.

I don't use Muscle Milk because it tastes nasty but try another brand if you can. Some places give out or sell samples so you don't have to spend another $20 to $40 just to find out it has the same effect. It could be any number of sensitivities from Whey to Sucralose (Splenda makes me very ill).
  • This sometimes happens to me after eating almond butter or high fiber breads. I spoke to my doctor about it and he didn't have an explanation. Just suggested I stay away from those foods because they don't seem to agree with me.

sounds abit like your blood sugar is going "out of wack" after. try it mixed with some fruit in a blender and see if that helps:drinker:

Muscle Milk is loaded with crap so it could be a blood sugar spike or a reaction to whey. I'm allergic to whey so when I'm just having a protein shake I still to egg white protein powder. Mine isn't sweetened with sugar or artificial sweeteners but with Stevia and I don't have a problem. I also mix it with Shakeology, which also doesn't have anything artificial in it and no artificial sweeteners or refined sugars and I feel better after drinking that, not worse. Change your protein powder.

Sounds like the first time I took a Niacin tablet. Check the label for Niacin in high dosage.
