So Ive heard lots of different people say they drink more, drink less,do extra cardio, eat less, eat the same to help them get the most out of their last workout before they get on the scale the next day..... Does it really make a difference if you do 1 or the other?

I am definitely no expert, but I sincerely doubt it.0

I used to eat very little the day before I weighed myself. I stopped worrying about it as much now and just eat normally. The number on the scale will be about the same each week depending on what you do the day before so there's no sense in trying to 'trick' it to say a smaller number. It just made me cranky the day I hardly ate haha0

well kinda... if you eat a lot of sodium the day before you may see extra water weight on the scale... or if you eat a lot of food you may see undigested food on the scale lol... but as far as true fat weight? no it wouldn't matter.0

I mean, it actually does make a difference. I've noticed I might have weighed 2lbs heavier if I ate pizza or something the night before and I'd weigh less if I did a water fast or ate small amounts. Buuuuuut it's not measuring fat, just water and extra poop and stuff. So it didn't matter enough to be worth it for me.0 -
It might make a difference what the number says on the scale. It doesn't make a difference in your progress.
My suggestion: Don't be so tied to the scale or a weigh-in day. Have the scale just be one of many ways you gauge your progress.0 -
Unless you are on the biggest losers I do not see how it is useful. Water weight and fat loss are 2 different things0

Okay this is going to sound strange, but hear me out... I have my degree in animal science. When in school inhad to take both nutrition classes and judging classes. One thing they teach u when judging an animal is to calculate for their stomach contents when judging weight. When u weigh keep in mind that what u ate the day before is likely still somewhere in your body. With this said also remember that just like in judging animals , the scale weight tells very little about the quality about what is inside. This is a very healthy view coming from someone who has battled eating disorders most of my life. I am now trying to lose weight I gained due to illness last year but have a much better body image now, oddly enough. Don't get overly excited about the number. Just use it as a guide to know what u need to tweak in ur eating and workouts. This week I've lost because I've changed to a new position at work where I am walking and on my feet most of the day. My pants are looser this week but the scale hasn't shown the change. I can nowt think rationally and realize it's because I'm on my feet and my body is adjusting and I'm having some water retention. I've started drinking tea in the mornings and evenings with cranberry juice and lemon juice to help as a natural diuretic until my body adjusts. Also don't limit water intake because it will hurt you more later than it will help u on the scale.0

I don't do anything different before my weigh day. What does it matter? It's about long term success and health overall. Also, the scale doesn't always give you a smaller number even when you've lost weight. There are a lot of factors going on and it's more useful to look at how you do month to month, not week to week. Besides if you just starve the day before, it's isn't real weight loss, just empty stomach/bowels; how useful is that for judging progress???0

It doesn't even matter. No reason to lie to the scale. This isn't a competition. It's being healthy. In the end, the scale means nothing. I know a lot of people in much better shape than myself who weigh more than me.
Unless you are on a game show, then don't worry about trying to trick the scale. Just weigh yourself as a partial means of progress. I will tell you that the most rewarding victories are non-scale-victories.
Like when my Dr took me off high blood pressure medicine because I didn't need it anymore. Or when my body fat % had almost cut in half.
You have to focus on your health and let the weight go where it goes. Weight loss goals are great, but never sacrifice health.0 -

This. If it's weigh-in day and I see a higher number, but it's like, the morning after I went out for Mexican food with my family, I don't worry.0 -
If you are trying to track reality why would you do anything different? Then you are just trying to influence the scale to tell you what you want to hear....not the reality of the situation. To see how you are really doing just do things the same and don't stress. Otherwise you will try and change it if even unconciously (I notice I sometimes leave behind food on my plate or log more servings than I eat) and then the scale could reflect just what you did the night before instead of reality (won't be that different but still mentally it could be).0

Nope...you can fool your body, but not yourself.0

I do eat differently the day before I weigh but that's mostly because of my work pattern. On work days I eat less and it so happens I weigh after a work day. It's more by accident than design. One thing I do is drink a lot of water before bed. I want to make sure I'm properly hydrated for the following morning so I'm not retaining water. That however is it.0

There's no point in trying to trick the scale into giving you a lower number because it's not a result of actual weight loss. It kind of seems like a waste of time to play games with the scale and falsely log your progress...0

I have one friend who has her rest day the day before a weigh in to reduce water retention which naturally happens from physical activity. I think that you should probably just stick to your regular routine--whatever you do, just be consistant.0

I don't think so, because the day before I weighed myself I went over my calorie goal quite a bit and I still lost 1.5 kilos.0
