Ok to take a break??

Anyone else ever taken a little break from running -maybe a week or two in hopes of enjoying it again? I've been running for about 5 miles now and feel I have gotten a bit bored with it. I'm doing some other type of cross training activity at least once a week, but my runs have become monotonous! Was thinking of taking a couple weeks off from running in hopes of resparking my interest in it. I still love the calorie burn that it gives me, and the fact that it has helped me shed inches faster than any other activity. I just don't look forward to my runs like I used to.

You've definitely gotta switch it up.. Try to find a partner, or a different route, or even a different surface. I went from 5K training to half marathon training to Warrior Dash training to trails, and threw in some bootcamp, trx, piloxing and zumba classes throughout. I have to change it up or I get bored, and if I get bored, I quit.0

I knew I enjoyed running, but I didn't realize HOW MUCH I liked it until I got a stress fracture and couldn't run. Then I stared at runners like a kid stares at the candy in the checkout aisle.
Take a break, then find ways to make it more fun.0 -
I was forced to skip my run today.. and I'm still bitter about it!
Try switching up trails or routes for your run... and take a break if you need to.0 -
You don't have to stop running, but you can change the type (just so that you don't fall out of the habit). Try heading to the park and doing sprints or find a good hill and do some repeats rather than your usual long run. You'll still see the benefits of the running that you enjoy but might find it more engaging (and will probably work some muscles you're not used to).0

I switch my exercise around. I first started again here in April this year and started swmming 5 or more times a week, got a bit bored so then started walking nearly everyday for 5 or 6 miles, got bored, now i'm cycling. Did 19 miles this morning. No doubt i'll get bored of that at some point so i'll go back to swimming again. A change is as good as a rest.0

try cross training with a little cycling or swimming. it's low impact, but still get cardio.0

Maybe you should try barefoot/minimalist running. That's what I'm starting out on (I'm not quite a runner yet), but some runners have told me that switching to barefoot/minimalist running made running fun again. I don't know if it'll work for you, but it's a thought.0
