how important of an ingredient is the applesauce?? these sound so delicious but the hubby is alergic to apples and I don't want to kill him with cookies!! any suggestions for replacement ingredients??

Has anybody mentioned that perhaps pureed pumpkin (not the pie filling though) might work? I used it in some brownies as opposed to applesauce or shortening and they came out pretty good.

I made these this weekend and they were....disgusting. I'm not even kidding. If they didn't have cocoa, I would have fed the first batch to my dog! For the next two batches, I put an indentation on the top of the "cookie" (like a thumbprint cookie) and put a tiny bit (about 1/2 tsp) of all fruit spread in it and that turned this recipe into a keeper. It made about 3 doz cookies.

Pureed prunes are a good substitute for applesauce.

Not sure it it would work in this recipe, but I have had a "mock applesauce" made out of pears...it'd be worth a try.

I'm going to be the *kitten* here! I found this recipe on pinterest a couple weeks ago and made it along with adding some chocolate whey protein. We baked them and all sampled them and were so disappointed. Even my toddler thought they were "yucky". I hope all of your experiences are better!

    Well crap

adding protein dries things out and changes the consistency. thus an unfair judgment.
  • sounds amazing!
