Energy Drinks - Thoughts?

I LOVE energy drinks:bigsmile:! I can give up pop and diet pop, but I just can't stop with the energy drinks. I get the zero carb, zero sugar ones and I drink them because I don't like coffee anymore. Should I let them go or do you think I'll be alright drinking the ones I'm drinking? Thanks:glasses:

The only argument about zero carb and zero sugar in drinks is that artificial sweeteners trick you into wanting other sugary carby foods and drinks. I have not found that to be the case for me. I like diet soda and drink it several times per week. So as long as it doesn't hurt you, I say do it.
Alternatively, water is always the best source of hydration and should be a regular part of everyone's daily routine.0 -
personally when i started my weight loss road i stopped all fizzys and have not looked back since! :noway: and that was 2 1/2 yrs ago0

Personally not a fan. Your body naturally produces the chemicals which make you feel awake and energetic. Anytime you rely on an outside substance (coffee, energy drinks, caffeine pills, b12 boost) your body will produce less of its natural chemicals. This effect is short lived and will restore to its natural balance within a few weeks of quitting your "energy booster". If you want a good healthy solution research lately has been really positive in the effects of coenzyme q10s ability to boost your natural production of these chemicals, leaving you feeling more awake.0

I am addicted to Monster Java Light! No carbonation, only a 100 calories per can and I justify it with it having 4 grams of protein only 10 grams of sugar and 14 grams of Carbs. I know I am drinking valuable calories I could be eating but I allow for them in my calories. I figure I could be consuming something far worse. STUPID I know! ....LOL0

I drink those too because I HATE coffee They give me energy and I haven't had any problems with loosing weight because of them.
I only get the low calorie ones though, like The Rockstar Zero Carb Zero Sugar.0 -
I drink the Monster 0 carb 0 calorie one too and I love it! I've been cutting back, now I only have them once or twice a week as a treat. Before I was drinking up to 4 cans per day.0

I started drinking these things when I quit drinking booze. It was nice to have something in my hand when at the bar besides a water, and it gave me a little bit of an energy buzz to keep me up with everyone.
Then, I started getting cravings for them in the middle of the day. Not a craving for caffeine, but specifically for energy drinks. I was drinking 2-3 of the larger 0 calorie Monsters a day.
There's something in those mofos that causes those cravings and I don't know what it is. Reading that ingredient label, I don't know what ANY of it is. I've got a bit of an addictive personality, though, so could just be me.
I quit drinking them. I don't really have a good reason for it, other than the fact that I think they are secretly evil. My nutritionist has also suggested that they can affect cortisol levels somehow, which contributes to fat storage I believe.
Not a very scientific post, I know, so feel free to rip me a new one. Just my experience.0 -
I would warn against them, one a day for a year caused me some liver issues. Had to go cold turkey because I was having side pains and could not stay healthy. That was five months ago and I haven't had one since. They are also super addictive (at least for me).0
