Can you exercise with Tendonitis?

Hi,
I have been doing too much running too soon and have achillies tendonitis. What i didnt ask was whether or not its ok exercise still. I know i can't run or do anything high impact. But was wondering if i could use the bikes at the gym (low resistance)? Feel like i really need to do something!!

When I had it, I did the eliptical, I think that may have prolonged the healing time a little bit, but not much.
  • Thanks for the advice!
  • Bicycling might also be an option since its very low impact and uses a different set of muscles than running. Swimming is also a really good option since it is also low impact.

Just recovering from this myself. I took a couple months off from running during summer (because I preferred not to burst into flames in the Alabama heat), and when I started back, I was so excited, I ran way too far, way to fast, way too soon. It took 2 runs for me to develop achilles tendonitis. I didn't run at all for 2 weeks, and I'm all good now. I did do some other workouts (Elliptical, Jillian Michaels routines with cardio like jumping jacks, etc) because it's far less impact than slamming your feet into pavement when running. Even running a treadmill would be good, or possibly on a track. Bikes and the like should be fine for sure.
