It's gonna sound crazy but, exercise will help relieve the cramps and pain. It helps you feel better. And as far as the flow goes, Mine since I have been working out for 2 years is WAY lighter, and my cramps are way easier to deal with. I hope this helps.

For me, I just have remind myself what's really driving the cravings. So either fight it or find a healthier version of it. So if it's chocolate, I'll make some devil's food/pumpkin (or vanilla greek yogurt...which I'm totally gonna try next!) muffins with cool whip free. That way I get my sweet and don't go totally overboard.

There might be some days that you need to skip working out, but on my heaviest days I just tell myself "okay..it's just for ****amount of time. I can suffer through that". Or something along those lines.

    Sometimes...concessions must be made!

Usually during that time I'm never really actually hungry, I just want to munch on stuff all the time. That's when I usually load up on the veggie snacks (carrots, persian cucumbers, etc etc) that I can dip into hummus and just keep myself busy so I'm not thinking about the sugary, salty snacks that my hormones are craving

I can totally sympathize right now. My daughter's bday was yesterday and it is taking some major will power to not go in the kitchen and eat the chocolate cake and sopapilla cheesecake leftover from the party. Usually I give myself one day to eat what I am craving. Which is usually a cycle of salty/sweet. Unfortunately I could do a lot of damage with all the leftovers in my house right now. Most of the time I don't have this stuff in the house so then I can't eat it. I agree that exercise helps with the cramping. It is really hard to get motivated and it hurts at first but you will feel so much better when you are done.

    This.
It's not so much I want sweets, it's that I want to graze and snack all darn day. I plan for it now, and have broccoli, carrots, red pepper slices, and all sorts of fruit ready. I also continue to work out like normal. I work out every other day as a rule of thumb so if it's T.O.M and it's a work out day I just do it. It's all a head game, and we can win it!
  • Wos girils!!!! Thanks a lot for all your advises.. Am gonna work on it!!!!! :indifferent:

I struggle a bit w/ sweets but I really agree, someone mentions above, moving helps. You don't have to run a marathon (unless you want to), a short walk helps w/ my cramps quite a bit. I get fatigued a little quicker that usual...but it passes and I feel better than if I was sitting on my butt.

Cravings are torture so I allow myself a treat or two on the worst day. Also I suffer with the kind of cramps that bring me to my knees and always refused to move during tom let alone exercise but I tried a little stretching and yoga a couple of years ago and found it does actually help. X

When it gets near unbearable, mini chocolate bars that end up being about 150 calories for a handful are my friend. Also, hot teas seem to help with the snacking binges and pain. I don't let myself slack off of working out either, I just usually make it more of strength training days rather than walking or cycling.

Most of the times is not cramps, is how heavy/is a lot. SOMETIMES i have only walk for 5 MIN and I have to go to the restroom to change! same thing, if am at work and I just stand up to grab my copies, wow..... THEN there is when i have to start running the the restroom.. Thats my thing. :(

when I really have a chocolate craving I get fat free vanilla yogurt and some trader joe guilt free brownie mix. I put some in the yogurt and it is totally filling for my fix!

I know what you mean, I used to have really heavy periods that would last up to 9 days sometimes! I totally get it, I would wear a tampon with a panty liner or something if I were you. I have had very light to no periods for the last 4 or 5 years of being on birth control, so if you're not on it maybe you should think about it? It's made my life sooo much better without the crazy cramps and bleeding. As for cravings, I give in a little.. if I really want the cookies I'm gong to eat them, the difference is I now only eat 2 as opposed to 2 rows.

This for sure!!! It has made a big difference for feeling better even though I dont really want to lol the cramps ease, headache goes away and i dont feel nauseous....if your worried about overflow....use two choices and workout at home so there are no worries....cravings- give yourself some small choices to have that fit into your calorie limits and with working out you will be able to indulge a little more....there are a lot of choices out there that can still be good for you :) hang in there-keep the fight going :)

I have found that exercise helps with the cramping and other issues. Also, I found an article (couldn't tell you where) that discusses the craving for chocolate (esp with that time o the month) being a lack of magnesium. I was taking a magnesium supplement for a couple of months but i found that almonds are a really good source of magnesium and a small amount of them really curbs the need for food or chocolate. Also, it is supposed to help with the irritability and insomnia too.
Might be worth a shot

"if I really want the cookies I'm gong to eat them, the difference is I now only eat 2 as opposed to 2 rows. "

This sums my life up perfectly, and what I'm trying really hard to re-program my brain about.

Today is my tom, and I was wondering the same thing. I am really low on energy and this day at work is totally dragging. I hardly feel like going home to work out. My excuses are also: it's gloomy outside, I'm cold in this office and I'm bored. I would love to be laying on my couch right now....

Guess what-if nothing else, I will be riding my stationary bike, even at a slow pace, for at least 10 minutes.

I can't give up or give in!
